Headphone jack repairs to T-Mobile G2?

The headphone jack in my G2 seems to have gone south. It'll only give one channel of sound if I physically hold the plug in a certain way.

Is this fixable if I take my phone to a local shop? It's not under warranty or service plan, and has served me well for the contract I'm under - I think I have five months left and was toying with a different carrier, so a repair would be preferable if I could get one without buying a new/refurb phone.

Any knowledge of how fixable/replaceable it might be?

Just jumping on here to say that I have the exact same problem and it is driving me totally crazy. Been looking around for possible fixes in HTC Desire forums, but still no luck.

Wish I could say I had something more for you... I just wanted to verify that its an issue many are having.

Actually, a local repair shop was able to do the work. They'll take mail-ins but the long story short was that they had to open the phone up, de-solder the old headphone jack, and solder on a replacement.

I'm sure it's home-repairable if you know what you're doing but I definitely can't confirm that for myself - every time I've ever tried soldering it ended poorly and painfully.

Oh, wow. Thanks for the follow up and for, at the very least, confirming that this is a fixable problem. Out of curiosity, do you remember roughly how much the repair shop charged you for the job? I'm sure it will be different everywhere, but I'm trying to estimate whether its more efficient to just pay the termination fee and get a new phone or to pay for the fix. Right now, I'm on T-Mobile with around 90 days left on my contract... So its only $50 to terminate early, get a new phone, and jump ship to an LTE network (which I want to do anyway). Again, thanks for the follow-up!

I think it was around $30-$40 to fix. You're probably better served terminating if it's only $50. Only reason I'm hanging onto my g2 is because I'm on an old unlimited data no-contract plan and I just gotta find a tethering app that gets me around the upsell page. I figure I'll wait until an ICS qwerty phone hits that's T-Mo compatible and just switch the SIM.
