    General Battery Life Question

As most know here, I have the BB 8530 (and I am perfectly happy with it). Lately, a clock has been showing up while switching between emails and accessing texts - this never happened prior. A telling sign is, of course, the battery running down a lot faster (it no longer lasts the day). Approximately 3 weeks ago, the back of the phone got burning hot and would not cool down - this was the first time I noticed such a thing occurring. I finally removed the battery, reinserted, and that solved the issue - but the drain time has remained.

So my question is - how long are batteries supposed to last? I ask because with every phone I have ever owned, 1-˝ years is the exact time - including this one (to the month). But the bigger problem is that once I replace the battery (always factory), it will hold a normal charge for 2 months tops, and then it is back to draining just as quickly as before (and I have replaced certain batteries 2-3 times on the same phone with the identical issue happening). So I normally simply buy a new phone - even if the old one is working perfectly fine otherwise.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, or do the majority not keep phones for a year and a half any more? I know others who have owned phones far longer who never have to replace the battery like this. And the odd thing is, I follow the charging guidelines and am nowhere near a heavy cell user. Is 1-˝ years as good as it gets? Not complaining about replacing the battery at that time, just curious to hear personal experiences.

    Thanks,

    Tina

Yeahh i would say that is the end of the battery. I would recommend getting a new android phone. I would reccomend a 4G phone. That has happened to me my battery was great with phones but then it just began draining. I think its time to replace that BB tina

I've found the battery will get warm, if using mobile web. This has happened with my current Android, as well as the featurephones I've used. It's not obviously specific to any one phone or model.

My own experience with the Android, is that I have been plugging in the charger every night.

well i also with my old smasung indulge noticed when i had yahoo messenger installed it would keep running on the background and my battery would heat up enough to cook an egg on it.If so i uninstalled it and it never over heated on me again. if i was you i would buy an oem battery on ebay for a few bucks but makes sure its an oem battery. oem stands for Original equipment manufacturer if i remember correctly. so getting a new stock battery for your blackberry would be the best thing to do since they are so cheap online.

If batteries are your concern, I would stay away from Androids, especially 4G ones. I love my Androids, but except for my rooted Indulge which now lasts about a week after extensive tweeking most die before the end of the day with any moderate use. RIM does have very good battery management (usually) and they could probably use that in an add campaign to boost their sales but somehow I don't think their management is that bright. No, with no tweeking at all my BB Tour still lasts me several days at least, and thats with several calls and tons of BBMs and alarms & stuff. Either that or go with a standard feature phone.

Thank you all for the info and input. I greatly appreciate it. I think I will purchase an OEM battery from eBay for the time being and then move on. It does not appear that Metro will remain the same for too much longer anyway, so I will hold off on purchasing a new phone.

    Thank you again.

i know what you talking about, i think its a mixture of things. The phone and the battery both get old connectors dont work the same and i think the phone connectors dont get the whole life of the battery and tells the phone you have no battery but you actually do lol

have no idea if that makes sense to you lol

on another note... people should really start turning Data off on their phone also the GPS and other location options because those are the one killing the battery...also dim down your screen brightness...i get a lil over a day of battery life doing this

i only turn on data if i go online and even then i hate turning it on because the battery goes down soooo quick....phone makers need to step up on these battery's its about time, with 4g, 2 processors phones and other stuff coming out...

I am browsing eBay and it looks as though there are a lot of buyers stating the same thing no matter whom the seller - if they have negative or neutral feedback, most of the batteries are used but look new. So what would your advice be based on experience? Should I buy from eBay, or BlackBerry directly? I do not mind paying the higher price in order to not get duped.

Some of these prices are too good to be true. I recall purchasing a battery for one of my other phones. It came in original packaging and looked new, but the battery started to run down very quickly after one month. I cannot recall how much I paid for it, but I know it was far cheaper than from the manufacturer. What should I do - all claim to be new OEM and look just like my current battery. Wish I could find a seller that had negatives not associated with used batteries.

    Thank you,

    Tina

I should try to clean the connectors first - maybe that will help. It never hurts to try. Otherwise, I have done all that I can. I have turned off Wi-Fi, no GPS, I have stopped running social apps such as Twitter and Facebook, dimmed the screen (down to 10 from 20), killed the sound/beeps when using the keypad from day 1 - it definitely is in need of a new battery. I charge my phone up to 3 times per day now when I used to be able to get away with 2 days before charging.

Thanks for the tips though. I appreciate it!

based off what you've said, personally, I'd order from Blackberry to be certain it's a new battery.
