Meh...nothing particularly earth shattering. Especially if you have to buy the device from Wally. If BYOD maybe a bit of a deal for some. Wish they'd make a "Straight Talk Hotspot" with the network roaming of ST, of course data would be very limited etc.

Considering what the OP posted earlier I was just letting everyone know of another offer Walmart/Tmo was starting...

OK so this is different from the offering OP originally posted, presumably? Because I don't see anything past 60 days as a service option. And only at Wal-Mart on the 60-day offerings. No mention if equipment must be bought from Wal-Mart as well?

That's correct. Based on the pricing differences I would have to say it is different from what the OP posted. Also the article does not mention anything about the equipment and if you must buy it from Walmart.

All this is based on a leaked document and no official announcement has been made yet. The article says that it will be made available on May 21.

Ting has a $6.00 per month line access charge that doesn't buy any megabytes, it is just money gone. For the very occasional light user, TIng would be more expensive compared to the originally posted IOTG plans.

For someone using at the rate of a couple GB per month, Ting costs more than $20.00 per GB compared to $10.00 for T-Mobile. Maybe there is a slight niche somewhere inbetween the two.

Well look what I found at Wally this AM...

Unfortunately, my worst fears are confirmed. Sprint. :-(

Nothing about T-Mo and the way they are setting up the area no extra shelf space for another provider...so who knows. Maybe it'll be an end cap special or maybe this store won't even get those as T-Mo has no native coverage here any way...

Ting? Give me a break. Sprint is bad enough (no data roaming, voice on Verizon) but their data rates suck too. No thanks.

Walmart doesn't usually sell prepaid phones for networks that have no coverage in that store's area. It would just get returned immediately.

Well this one sells Virgin Mobile phones and hotspots which don't work very well in the area, either. Very fringe signal at best. So I don't know...maybe it depends on the number of returns at an individual store over a set time period, no idea. But this Wally definitely sells phones and equipment for networks which either don't work, or just barely work, meaning a likely return...

Different plan system. All Virgin plans expire in one month whether you use all the data allowed or not. Possibly higher speed, since Virgin sends all traffic through an (apparently deliberately) slow gateway server.

Aha, OK gotcha, thanks. Now I'm wondering whether I can activate a used Virgin BB2G MIFI device on this service.

I confirmed that a few local WMs do carry the devices & cards, so I may give this a try, I'll post back if I do.

Are you going to try to activate your VM BB2G MIFI with the IOTG card before you try the IOTG device? That would be a HUGE savings in initial outlay. Let us know if you do.
