Hi, Just a quick question, I know I have to ask the new carrier to port my number and they make the request to rogers on my behalf, however when rogers finds out I am switching will they try to offer something to keep me or do they just let me go and its a done deal. I just want to make sure before actually leaving. I would stay if rogers offered something. But it doesn't look like they are going to. They texted me to call a number saying I had some special offer waiting - all it was was a month free but I had to sign a 12mo. contract for it. I didn't really understand it.

Fritz is right. The only way to get a 'retentions' offer is to make them want to retain you. This can only happen if they think you are at risk of leaving, which happens when you call and ask about leaving.
Call 611 and ask for information on how to port out. See the various retentions threads for more info.
