She's using Verizon prepaid, but feels the need to buy discounted cards on eBay? Story sounds fishy
What's fishy? You wouldn't buy a $50 card discounted at $40 just because you use Verizon prepaid?
This thread reminds me about counterfeit currency in the US. If you pass a counterfeit bill, even unintentionally, and are caught there will be no refund and it will be taken from you. I am not suggesting the OP did so intentionally or not, but it would be a similar comparison. All the complaining in the world wouldn't work in that scenario either.
If I'm annoyed and you're annoyed, does that make us a paranoid ??

I've never understood that. Does the government really expect us to check every dollar we spend to be sure it's legit?

There is nothing wrong with buying your cards anywhere you want, including on eBay. Well, so long as you buy a valid and legitimate card. While many of the sellers on eBay are good people, as with any place, there can always be one bad person. The risk is yours, and you are suppose to weigh the risk vs. the benefit of saving a few bucks.
However, if you buy a counterfeit or fraudulent card, and then use that card, its you that is fully responsible and accountable. Again, the risk is all on your shoulders. And the consequences are all yours.
I disagree. You did purposely take the risk to try to save yourself some money. You made a choice. It backfired. Of course, you could have minimized your risk completely by buying your cards at a local store that has a reputation to maintain (Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc).
BTW, none of this is Verizon's fault. They have every right to guard themselves against people, like you, who commit fraud.
Counterfeit money is worthless, but you only lose the value of that one bill. Trying to spend it is not a crime unless you knew beforehand that it was fake. Upon finding someone with a counterfeit bill, the government won't take all the genuine money out of their wallet without a court conviction. So that's not a good analogy for what Verizon did.
If the OP is willing to see it through he might get the cost of his handset refunded, but not the value of the prepaid card in question IF he goes to small claims court and IF he provides a receipt for his phone. Unfortunately, there would be no guarantee for the OP to win any compensation.
I was getting ready to make this same point myself. I kind of feel like verizon s system should have caught this when the op tried to activate the card. I'm with the person who suggested the sign outside the store. The squeeky wheel gets the grease. I've seen it work before, the bad pr isn't worth the $159 to vzw

what is this new feature, and how can I manipulate it in order to make myself seem superior to those around me?
I do see where Verizon would remove the value of the fraudulent card from her account balance. However if this was her first questionable transaction, then completely cancelling her account, blacklisting her phone and refusing to refund her legitimate balance seems to go too far. But we're not hearing Verizon's side of this story either.
As a consumer, a prepaid customers have no rights. Verizon or any other carrier can turn you off for any reason. They may have pull the pin from the past months and have found them to be fakes as well. But in any case you as a consumer of prepaid you have no rights, read the fine print. Page Plus shut people down for using to many minutes on their unlimited plan. They also will cut you off if they find you using a Verizon prepaid phone on Page Plus, even if you just paid for
another month worth of service. If a customer on Verizon forgets his password to get into has account, they can never change anything to do with. Ex. Change phones or plan. Contract customers can show I'd, but prepaid cannot. Again no rights, so good luck in court room. Verizon will use the disclaimer as their defense. I hope you best of luck, my advice be nice and ask for a superviser. They also are able the give credit up to $200. Customer service reps are only ad to.give up to $50. They will have to send it to off line. I hope this will help.
Actually you cannot be mad at apple, cause apple is not providing your signal! ATT and Verizon are the only 2 Carriers for Iphone, I believe they will be comparable in iphone sales, but by my own experience with those 2 carriers, I'd take ATT all day long. This is no different then when Napster came out and fought with Metallica. Apple left the door open for those who like to bend the end product, and anyway, Verizon customer service is awful, and their CDMA is somewhat slow and will be way behind the ball coming up with a means to produce 4g speeds. ATT faster, but a bit more congested, but still better I think coverage and customer service speaking and they will be well ahead of Verizon when 4g speed becomes more relevant, especially that we mainly all pay for less then the advertised 3g speed. Verizon dont even budge, at least ATT says hey, you play around outside the manufacturer specifications, dont cry about not having a warranty, but i dont think they ever would just shut anyone down, lol, cause they'd lose business and so would Apple, ****, ATT praying Verizon keep doing that, cause if that person stays with iphone, ATT ready to welcome Verizons customers on over! FYI- whoever started this post, it was very interesting and amusing in a twisted way cause of what happened but yeah, whats the deal? On the real, I have 5 iphones and want to cut back on some lines, message me, i'm dead serious, i have iphone 3gs and iphone 4, have some lines i can transfer and i'm due for an upgrade soon and i have lots of extra accessories, the original boxes, charges, all perfect condition! Matt
wilcel1 worded it perfect and i even mentioned it in a post once, its all in the approach. I go with the laid back, friendly, respectful and calm method and again, ATT has went above and beyond everytime for me and its possible a Supervisor at Verizon may as well, but keep your cool dude, stick with your story as you posted and come across upset and disappointed and emotional mixed with an apologetic i never couldve imagined this, then you can finish up with the please look at my track record benefit of the doubt and then depending what Verizon says, the call will end with a thank you so much or a blankity blankity i hate you so much
