    late SMS

so, i missed my morning breakfast because my SMS replies to my coworker were delayed by 3h. first message went through @ 0800PDT, then later messages around 0900PDT did not.

interestingly, we may have stumbled upon a cause. just before he started receiving the delayed messages (egg and bacon mcmuffin combo, no cheese) i received one of those annoying WIND SPAMS about my bill being ready.

i wonder if the two incidents are related, in that their SMS message queue is full of (400,000 subscribers / 30 days = 13,333) SPAM SMS and delaying legit SMS?? is this already known, or does anyone see similar behaviour??

i'm glad i'm not getting SPAM SMS in the middle of the night, but, if this is the reason, they really need to QoS their messages. </end rant>

Had exactly the same problem late morning in downtown Toronto. Luckily, I have delivery reports enabled , so I was able to see that my messages weren't delivered on timely manner. I did reboot my phone and everything went back to normal.

Sometimes I feel WIND should pull their own metaphorical battery from their network and reboot it all so it can work more reliably.

Like scheduled maintenance. I remember back in the days when fido use to do maintenance one in a while.

I know they frequently do this in sections along the network, but it's just laughably inexcusable. It's always something, the reception, the call quality, now these text things are starting to climb up in irritability.

nope, reboot did nothing. the messages appeared as sent on my side. had coworker reboot his phone, same deal. sent to users on other networks and the message was similarly delayed.

he wanted to bet me that is was a WIND issue, but i knew that was a fool's bet.

i've also noticed recently my data doesn't come back when i wake the phone. this is starting to annoy me, too. nothing changed on my side, complete battery pull does nothing. just have to toggle airplane mode and it's back for a short while.

Agh! I hate that. I'm hearing it more and more, jokes along the lines of "are you on WIND? Call me when you get a real network" etc.

It's the worst kind of top-of-mind marketing WIND could hope for.

i'm mostly fine with WIND's little quirks, it's miles better than it was 2 years ago, but it's tempting to just give up. at this point, i really want ROGERS, et al, to feel the heat of some competition more than i want to have a happy cel phone experience. i also like being spanked, what can i say? ;P

seriously though, i made damn sure i had a FIDO pay as you go when my wife was pregnant, 2 years ago. i wasn't going to trust WIND with that call back then. now, i'd probably be ok with just WIND, as long as i was sitting by a window.

Mobilicity gets similar treatment about its signal strength. The problem with Mobi's signal issue something people are lenient about because it's not something that can be tackled overnight. The issue with WIND is that these little annoyances should be quick fixes and shouldn't be popping up as frequent as they are.

If only sitting by a window would help fix issues like delayed SMS or calls bouncing directly to VM even with signal...

Mobilicity is lucky, they're small enough that no-one will ever care to know who they are, WIND keeps trying to make media splashes about being this great new brand and awesome prices, but the value perceived after one signs up for service quickly diminishes as stark contrasts and comparisons are made by the average consumer.

In other words, WIND sucks to a lot of people, or blows. What ever pun floats the boat. :P
