If it does get released before 5/27, someone has to try!

I would expect an ESN block to prevent activation pre-release or on a grandfathered $25 plan.

Well at that point the phone by design will be 4 yrs old, not sure how many will be left. Sprint is launching and has LTE active, Clearwire is launching LTE next year alongside their WiMAX offering which Sprint/Boost/Virgin all operate on. Both Sprint and Clearwire will also be launching LTE-Advanced over the next few years. This platform will eventually replace all forms of 3G/4G in the future.
Most prepaid smartphone subscribers replace their phones every 12 to 18 months. That is one of the advantages of prepaid service. You can update your device as frequently as you want without penalties or CON-tracts to worry about. These new high-end devices are being introduced at extremely appealing price points. This might be further indication of a bigger change that continues to develop in the way wireless service is sold in the US.
Prepaid wireless may soon reach a point where it will simply be an optional method for consumers to obtain a device and service from a carrier. This also seems to be the perfect moment for Sprint to reintroduce SPRINT PREPAID featuring an extended coverage area and access to roaming along with access to the current device and service line-up.

Operating without a contract makes you far more valuable.

    http://www.mywireless.org/state-issu...-tax-rankings/

I've compromised with a discount on Sprint postpaid($62.49) BUT my State's Taxes/Fees are literally the lowest in the nation. This can add up to 18%+ to a wireless cellular bill. I think often these additional cost savings included into flat rate prepaid plans are too often overlooked. In other words depending on which State one lives in the savings could be even bigger on prepaid.

If they offer an online preorder option on VM USA, i'm in.
you can save a few Dollars by topping up with Calling Mart and using those funds to pay for the new devices.

Just curious, since the screen isn't 3d could you find a replacement 3d screen for the Sprint version and change it out? Or would the software probably not support it?

Just saw an update to that Verge article:

"Update 2: Despite Virgin Mobile's site and PR making absolutely no mention of it, we discovered that the HTC Evo V 4G is identical to the Evo 3D in every way, including the 3D screen. Check out our hands-on for more details on Virgin's new hardware."

wow LOL! that's a pretty big mistake to make, saying that the screen no longer supports 3d when it actually does do 3D.

Oh man.. That's slick! $299 is a GREAT price point for the phone too. I'm happy to hear that WiMAX will not be throttled either - WiMAX was built to be a mobile broadband service and can handle it, unlike 3G CDMA. I'm not a big fan of Sense and have specifically avoided HTC phones on T-Mobile because of it, but I understand the latest iterations of Sense have been getting better and less bloated.

I'll probably pick up an Optimus Elite and stick with my $25 plan til the next new 4G phone comes out. I'm not ready to part with my $25 plan yet.
Castrol EDGE 5W-30 is my drug of choice.

    Toyota | moving forward

    Primary: Galaxy Note II & iPhone 5 (AWS): 5 lines, 1x $15 4.5GB data, 3x $2.99 T-Zones (truly unlimited 4G data), myFaves, corp discount + $10/mo loyalty discount = $88/mo tax inclusive
Secondary: iPhone 3GS: Airvoice Wireless, Samsung Fascinate & HTC Trophy: Page Plus
