Glad to finally see some official announcement of phone and pricing!

Are you sure it is unlimited WiMax???
When you check the bottom of the picture of modems, you realize there is a 10GB cap. Does it apply to EV or both?

I use clear as my ISP. I pay $40 a month. If there's no cap on the wifi, I think I can upgrade to this phone... pay an extra $10 over my current $25 plan + the VM $15 hotspots fee and cancel my clear account. I could then use the phone as my home ISP legally and save $15 a month

    Is this correct?

Yes, you stand to benefit nicely with this.

As long as another household member doesn't need the internet while your out.

It seems that Clear used to throttle their customers prior to this year, but they ended up getting sued for it.

If you Google "wiMAX throttling", you'll get more results.

I was really excited when I heard VM was getting this phone. My Optimus V is great, but it's starting to get sluggish and feel dated to me. But is it really worth it for me to get this even if I don't live in a place that gets WIMAX? My 3G coverage is good, but not great, and I don't think I've ever been throttled.

I don't know how this claim that the EVO's screen is not 3D has become widely accepted. It is a 3D stereoscopic screen like what can be found on the Nintendo DS.

All it comes down to is whether or not you need a better phone. I have the LG Optimus as my secondary phone and still think that it's one of the best entry level Android devices that I used.

I assume that you're on the $25 Grandfathered plan, which means that (if you are on it) you'll be paying $120 more annually for the exact same internet speeds, should you upgrade.

Personally, if I lived in a 3G-only area, I wouldn't see a point in buying a better device and pay extra for wiMAX that is not even building out anymore.

The Optimus, also has the hotspot feature, which I always thought was great (and still do) and you don't have to pay extra for it, and with the data cap, one can't really say that tethering is abusing the network, because the "abuser" will be throttled at 2.5GB.

As an example, I recently upgraded my phone to the Galaxy S2, but I wouldn't have done it if the market that I'm in was not HSPA+ 42, which the phone supports.

Also, if you haven't already done so, you could always root the LG Optimus and install a custom ROM on it. Some of these ROMs are really nice and will speed up your phone by removing bloatware, increasing CPU speed, etc.

    Exciting!
One thing to be aware of is that if this is identical to the Evo 3D,
it is relatively beefy and heavy. Ha! I should talk.

Originally it was reported that it wasn't. But I read somewhere on here that even VM later edited their page on it to reflect that it did have a 3d screen.

    Hey Scottish!

I hit a peak of 26GB of usage a few months ago, obviously not close to your usage(100GB ?).

I'm a little surprised Sprint is allowing 10GB on VM broadband plans. However, a recent contract between Clear and Sprint allows unlimited access to Clear's network apparently on a flat rate type basis. The handsets are going to be unlimited.

"The agreements modify prior wholesale pricing agreements and provide Sprint with unlimited access to Clearwire’s WiMAX network to meet its growing 4G data demands."

Scottish, how do think Boost and Virgin subscribers here will react to WiMAX? I foresee some signal strength rage threads.

will there be any difference between sprint users and VM users in terms of download speed/call quality?
i hope ICS and other adjustments will improve battery life. i heard it's abysmal even without 3D usage.

also anyone know if VM web store charges tax? shipping's free so if there's no tax we might save $25~ instead of buying from the retailers.

no taxes, when purchasing with acct balance (from previous experience) ... There are a few places online where you can purchase VM Top Up cards at a discount.
CON-Tracts??? We don't need no stinking contracts!
