    Angry $30 Upgrade Fee? Really?

In an attempt to further insult current, long- time VZW customers, they are now charging a $30 "upgrade fee". WTF what is that for?

Be very careful when you upgrade your phone from 3G to 4G. I had a Droid X with unlimited data at $29.99 per month and mobile hotspot (2GB) for $20.00 per month. I upgraded to a Droid Razr Maxx, paid $30.00 for the priviledge and then got a notice from VZ that my plan was now for 10GB Data fro $50 and no mobile hotspot. I called and was informed that for 4G phone ("because they are amazingly fast") now charge $30.00 for 10GB.

I was very explicit when I went to the Verizon store and asked if I had to make any changes to my current plan. I was told by two different reps there would be no difference and I got the shaft.

I call VZ customer service and got my unlimited data plan back at $29.99/month and then was told that all I could get for hotspot service was the 10GB $30.00 month plan. I asked to speak to a supervisor and after a long wait the rep came back and said they would reinstate my $29.99/month data plan and give me a credit of $10 per month for the next two months for the hotspot while they process a request for a plan change to my original plan ($20/month for 2GB).

I was amazed at the veracity of the CSR when he said "you get 10GB for $30.00". I don't even use all of the 2GB with the $20.00 a month plan.

Cellular service, and not just Verizon, has become a price gouging free for all with no respect for the customers. I am not looking for more than what I paid for and agreed to when I set up a plan but I do expect them to provide what I contracted for.

Was going to upgrade mine and my husbands phone last night and realized they are charging this $30.00 for each phone to buy a new phone. Really, the only reason I stay w/verizon is because we always have service, but starting to get tired of the additional charges. I chatted w/a rep last night they said it was because we purchased a discounted price phone, well hello not much of a discount when you turn around and charge me $30 per phone.

Did you end up upgrading? Did they waive it?

If you go from a 3G to a 4g phone and have unlimited data the hotspot will go from $20/2gb to $30/unlimited and that is the only option because of the 4g phone and the unlimited data. Unless you switch to a tiered plan of course.

Stop being so selfish. Do you realize the costs associated with renovating that new flat in Paris? It's expensive.

Stop thinking of yourself all the time. Go on food stamps if you cant afford to eat after you pay your bill. Do you realize the energy expended picking up the phone to find a new Picasso to hang in the day room? A phone had to be picked up and dialed for the love of god so someone could find one.

You selfish people make me ill.....

No longer a VZW employee, but still a good information source.

It's incredible anybody would complain about upgrading to a new phone and paying $30 for the privilege of going online after it's delivered and activating it yourself. Can't you see how much that costs Verizon when you upgrade your phone? You should actually send them an extra $30 and thank them for allowing you the pleasure.

Where you attempting to exploit that temporary loophole, that some people here used to move their unlimited 3G-only hotspot over to a 4G device?

Even if not intentionally, I can certainly see that VZW has every right to close that loophole, and not allow it any longer.

i think you people forget, other carriers have been doing this for years. no one is forcing you to upgrade. if the $30 fee is so unethical, why not just buy your phones outright with no contract?

Do you work for Verizon corporate? It's a stupid fee, ask the carriers about it and you'll get the usual corporate mumbo jumbo, ask a store and you will get a "huh?". They are losing money on voice, so they are trying to make up with it with stupid fees, I guess they are taking their cue from the banks. They don't need to charge all these nickle and dime fees. These companies are trying to gouge every last dime out of us, then gouge some more to find anything they missed the first time.

You've made me feel so selfish and guilty that I will do just that; or better yet, an extra $100. Now that I think about it, the more I realize that the more I send, the better I will sleep.

No way I'm going to pay them $30 in order for me to sign a two year contract. That's like getting fired on your day off.

Of course if you go into a store and ask why they'll go huh? You act like they made up these fees. Big business are always going to find something new to charge you for. ***** and complain all you want, nothing is going to change.

*****ing and complaining is actually probably the main reason for this fee, they have to give so much **** away to people they're losing money off of it.
