    Fido Data problem

    I have a really big problem. Last month Fido charged me 70$ for 2.5GB of usage OVER my 6GB. I'm using a Galaxy Note for emails, twitter, very little youtube and some web surfing. Over the last 2 years the most data I have used is 1.2GB. Now, last month I went 2.49GB over and this month so far I'm at 16.5GB over!! And my billing cycle ends on the 21st. Is there something I can do to fight this? I don't even do 22GB at home let alone on my phone. This is crazy!!!! And on to top it all off, I was using wifi for most of the time I had access to it which was pretty often.

    Sorry to read that... However web surfing, emails & twitter doesn't use much data.

    Meaning then you obviously doing more then these...

    Check your settings again. Good luck.

    That's my problem I AM NOT doing anything more. I don't tether, I'm not on youtube 24/7. I'm not a teenager. I use my phone for work. I have 2 yahoo emails,3 gmail and 2 reg email addresses. I also have twitter, whatsapp, weather network and a stocks app running but never did I go over 1.5 gb in the past and that i managed to used because i had restored my phone and redownloading all my apps. Doesn't make sense at all...

    1. Do you have any way to track data usage on your phone per day and per app? If not, get one (like rudiboy recommended).

    2. Do you have any way to track data usage via your account, even if it requires checking frequently? I recall that, in the past year or two, some people on HoFo reported a huge surge in what the account's data counter reports right at the end of the billing cycle.

    I just downloaded an app to track usage, so far today I've used 15MB. Fido has the My Account app. I checked it this morning and that's when I saw the horror!

    The Fido app is next to useless for consumption so you do need a data tracking app. Download "Advanced task killer free" from the play store and check what is running every hour. On top of that, go to applications manager and look at "running". If your phone is really using that much, there is a reason, or Fido has it wrong.

    If I understand you properly, you have used about 21GB of data so far in this cycle. I have an International Note with 16GB + 32GB SDHC. If you were "downloading" something to your phone, you would actually need the space to accommodate it (ie if you only have the 16GB, you can't download 21GBs to it...). If not, then it would be a streaming issue and not a downloading one. Are you using LTE?

    I would turn off the network data option (on the phone) for 2 days and when you get your bill you should see 2 days with no activity. If that is not the case... someone's got some splainin to do ;-)

    I disabled the packet data option and been using wifi only. I only turned on the data just to check if the fido app has budged. As of right now since this morning, I have used 5MB of 3G and 29MB on WiFi. I also have the international Note, it doesn't have LTE and LTE isn't on Fido anyway. Is it possible that my SIM got hacked and they're using data on my line? Funny thing is, last month I was over by 2.49GB and this billing cycle, i made sure to use wifi all the time, i never turned wifi off. It's kind of weird and I just know Fido is gonna nail me with the 16GB overage (total used is 22GB!) they are claiming I used, at 0.03$ an MB, thats almost 500$!!! The past months my usage has never gone over 2GB, last months were 430MB, 810MB, 1.1GB, 1.7 GB, 1.02GB, 8.5Gb (last month) and 22GB (this month so far). I still have 12 more days this cycle!

    Check to be sure that your portable hotspot isn't on. I've heard of people leaving their hotspot on and full open.

    That's the first thing I checked but I never use it as a hotspot to begin with

    Do you receive the half ***** Fido "notification" thing that tells you when you get to 75% ?

    Nope never, not last month or this month. Fido excuse was that they cannot guaranteed that it will work with a "non" fido phone and I said BS. Phone has nothing to do with SMS. They also blamed the fact that I was using a BB 6GB with android. I've had that for the last 3+ years with no problems, again BS

    Haha well.... I know a guy who worked for a telco lol... he told me that they will do anything to take the blame from themselves and put it on the customer. I say, they let you use BB with Android so you didn't hear them blaming anyone as they took your money. Just don't have an issue because that's when YOU become the problem.

    It seems to be the one thing that the teclos are incapable of evolving on. They will play the blame game until new blood changes the scenery, then you will see the same forced evolution that we saw with 6GB 30$ (which was previously what, a billion dollars lol ??)

    I don't complain because when I call them, I have never once felt like they knew more than me about anything. Sometimes I'll be in a giving mood and teach them :-)

    Haters and telco trolls, keep ur traps shut :-)
