Ditto...this is EFFEN annoying!!!!
Provide an alternate means for the spam via email for "members" wishing to recieve the spame or start losing customers.
Remember members can take their business else where.
Hey All!
You can opt out of messages if you choose-- but our contact method still remains text messages for account information. If you want to opt out, give us a shout and we'll make sure you stop receiving the texts regarding deals and freebies.
Lots of Love,
Virgin Mobile
Thanks, VirginMobileCan. Can one also opt out of all premium text services?
Hey all![]()
You're good, WorldIRC! Remember, Premium SMS is subscription based, so you have to confirm the acceptance of those from your handset with a double opt-in.
If you have them coming in, send STOP to end subscription! Check out www.txt.ca for more info on those specific kinds of services in Canada.![]()
Hope that helps, friends!

I'm not sure if this person is even from Virgin but either way they are lying. When you call you will be told that there is no such thing as an opt out option and that there is nothing they can do. This is both the offices in N. America and the Philippines. When you remind them they are breaking the law, they remind you that they aren't and don't care.
Just contact the CRTC. I did and have to do up a statement to send in as the CRTC says they aren't supposed to be doing it either.
If enough of us do this then Virgin will end up with some massive fines just like Bell and Rogers did and then (and only then) will they knock this crap off.
VirginMobileCan you should be banned from the forums for either being an impersonator or just a lying corporate douchebag. If you really work for Virgin go tell your employer to obey the bloody laws of this country or get the hell out of it!
Anyone got a recommendation for a decent pay as you go provider in Canada? I would rather give my $120 a month for our 3 cell phones to a carrier that doesn't act like life is a giant con game. Corporate psychopathy is something the world is frankly rather sick of. See wall street for details.
Uh oh, you're probably gonna blow... I got 1 spam text yesterday and 1 today so you probably did too
Too bad they weren't for more useful things though like save 10% on your grocery bill at Safeway or get 20 cents off gas at Costco. Just teeny bopper stuff that doesn't apply to me, or for a store we don't even have in B.C.
I think that is an excellent idea actually. If it was opt in of course. And how cool would it be if you were out shopping and you got a text alerting you to savings in the store you are in etc. That would be innovative and not the least annoying (again, as long as it was opt in).
Great idea!
You're going to switch carriers, potentially pay early termination fees and a higher monthly price because of an average of a spam text every couple of weeks? I would imagine u are with VMC becuause they had the lowest monthly price for what you were looking for so that seems a bit drastic and possibly more expensive?
However if you happen to find a different carrier that's cheaper and no texts, let all of us know as there may be others considering the same thing as you!
Just called 611 to deactivate the SMSes from Virgin, it took all of three minutes to do it.
Forgot to ask if that also disabled the invoice notifications, but I'll know in a few days anyway.
