It didn't actually need to be asked in the first place. There's been very limited circumstances where mobilicity has limited PLANS to new activations. So perhaps the users moaning and groaning (you) should've been smarter and listened to the correct answer the first time?

It wasn't a correct answer at all, because it was a non-answer, and the literature on the website said otherwise.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband. The reason Wind and Mobilicity users like pentaband phones is because the reverse is true. We're not the only ones who like pentaband phones though, so please stop referring to phones that work on Wind and Mobilicity as pentaband. It causes unnecessary cofusion.

Is that why you were complaining about not being able to get the 37.50 so loudly?
Doesn't make a lot of sense does it?

Ok jokes apart, existing customers are allowed to switch to 50% off promo. Just confirmed, some people over at RFD could get this.

I'm on hold, as well. There really must be a lot of people trying to switch.

Edit: I had to wait about forty minutes, but they let me switch!

Ditto, waited 45 mins, maybe I got a dumb csr, I was playing naive and asking him about plans available and he was persistent on the regular plans. When I told him about half promos, only then he brought it up. Sigh. And he wouldn't even let me keep my $2 off promo. :-(

Promotions that offer plans for half price for 6 months/12 months/or whatever length of time do get customers to sign up because of the very cheap price, but it's a short term thing. This type of promotion makes it so that after the plan goes back up to regular price, the customer will be likely to switch to another company to get another promotion. The half price promotion does not encourage customer loyalty and actually encourages customers to leave Mobilicity after the price goes back up. That's where the $37.50 and the like plans are good as they encourage the customer to stay with Mobilicity because you get a good price all the time, and they discourage you from hopping back and forth between companies in the fear that you might not be able to get your old plan back.

Maybe Mobi I'd trying to increase subscriber numbers for an eventual buy out or merger.

On the other hand for Mobi I see these half off pricing diminishing their perceived value. When a customer finishes the year at only $22.50 per month to be raised double they will either jump on another promo or switch carriers. As such Mobi will have to continue offering lower pricing or risk losing customers. As a consumer we are happy with cheap rates, but if Mobi ever decides to expand, the pricing may not be sustainable and also the network can continue to degrade with all the extra customers and no new back haul.
