    Best VoIP deal?

Stuck at home for medical reasons. Using lots of minutes for the same reasons. I'd love to find something simple/free and good, solely for outgoing calls. I know nothing about VoIP services - is there a dummies guide?

Vonage Mobile is the best from my own experience.

GrooveIP allows you to also do incoming calls, but the call quality is bad.

Vonage is the big name player, but I've heard lots of horror stories about them so I stayed away. I wound up buying a refurb Ooma device (on Woot!) and using their service. Basically you pay for the box and then basic service is free except for taxes/fees (usually around $5; they have an estimator tool on their website). I've had a few hiccups when dialling my gf, but I suspect that it's as much her service as mine. Otherwise it's been fine.

I wound up paying for a year of Premium service ($10/mo) because it included a free number port (wanted to keep my old landline number since it's registered with so many businesses, doctors' offices, etc.). The extra features are nice, but I'm not sure if I'm going to keep Premium next year.

Groove ip works fantastic for me . you cant tell it's not a regular phone. It is free to try from google play and you use it with google voice. once you get everything setup it is easy to use as your regular phone dialer. I have a second ov that I bought from target on black friday for 50 dollars. it has never been registered with virgin and I use it as a wifi tablet at home exclusively. we have high speed comcast internet at home, the cheaper plan that they offer. my wife is talking on grooveIp a minimum of 2 hours everyday no issues whatsoever.
we also have magic jack plus which we had our home phone number ported to. yes my wife talks on both phones at the same time because she can. we also have 3 laptops at our house using wifi and I'm also using the wifi on my primary ov when I'm at home. we can be using the wifi on all 6 devices at the same time with no problems.
sent from my ovi using voice to text

We just purchased an Obi-100 from Walmart that syncs with Google Voice. This allows us to use our wireless analog phones. Very simple to set up and use with an existing Google Voice number. Call quality is extremely good.

About $55 from Walmart, though Amazon has them for $40 with free shipping.
