Official List Of Smartphones That Will Allow You To Retain Your Grandfathered Plan

I see a lot of questions and misinformation here.

The only smartphones (even if it needs replacing) that will allow you to retain your grandfathered plan are:

    Venture
    LG Optimus Slider
    HTC Wildfire S
    Motorola Triumph
    LG Optimus V
    Blackberry Curve 8530

This is the Virgin Mobile page where this info is from.

This info is especially useful for those who already enjoy decently fast 3G speeds and don't need faster speeds and those who for some reason or another don't care for a $10 premium increase.

That doesn't sound too promising for those wanting to stay on the $25 plan.

That is a fine selection of cheap phones for cheap plans.

Sprint/VM should revise the current BT/35 plan to include 450 minutes. That might entice some of the grandfathered subs to upgrade to the new devices and current BT options.

That is a good catch, they may end up phasing out the grandfather plans eventually.

I would hate to upgrade to the triumph @ 25/mon, only to be bumped up to 35 later. darn their sneaky wording.

VM has not forced anyone to upgrade to new plans in the past and with carriers actively competing for prepaid subscribers, they probably will let you keep your plan as long as you keep your acct active.
With a little research there might be a resource out there that provides insight into esn mods that will enable swaps with newer devices.

As of today, Virgin Mobile's "official response" on their Facebook page is that "as long as the phone is on the account BEFORE May 27th, you can keep the grandfathered $25 plan." This was in answer to questions about upgrading to the Optimus Elite and whether timing mattered.

So... I guess you can add the Optimus Elite to the list of phones, as long as you switch to it before May 27th!

Assuming VM doesn't ESN block activations of the Elite prior to the official release date.

Are you willing to take a gamble on that? FB's "official response" is by a customer service agent who may be misreading the company's actual policy as posted on the website.
