I've never gone the smartphone/data route, but I'm looking.
Can I match or beat $30/month using some decent Android handset on PPlus? Currently have nothing but voice service, standard plan. Use it very little, and don't anticipate that changing. Would simply like to try smartphone/data and maybe move to that.
Competition is fierce in this arena. It looks like PPlus really doesn't want us to use data, do they? They make it difficult, and/or pricier than the competition.
I don't really think the data use will be all that much. As I look at my employer-provided Sprint BB, it shows that I'm around 300MB/month--but I'm just using email and some GasBuddy stuff, no apps to speak of (tiny screen, don't really care). I don't know what general consumer data usage would be for everyday usage and playing around.

You can do $30/mo, but you'll have to use data sparingly and be on WiFi as often as you can. Just about everyone has WiFi at home, some have it at work (or they don't use their phone at work so it doesn't matter), but you'll still have only a small amount of data while you're out and about.
Castrol EDGE 5W-30 is my drug of choice.

BB phones are designed to conserve data, but if you are using 300 megs on a BB doing the things you stated, you would need to move up to the 55 with an Android phone unless you keep most of your use to wifi.
I'm confused about your post since you start off sounding like you've never used a data plan but finish by saying you use 300 MB over an employer-provided Sprint plan. If you've never used data before then the TNT1200 plan might work for you. But if you are considering replacing the Sprint plan where you used 300 MB then that plan won't meet your goal since its only 100 MB.
I have what my employer provides me, but I'm not replacing that. I just know that my data usage with that particular BB is 300MB or so. This new one would be for my wife, who wants to get into the modern age. She currently has a PP voice phone, does voice very sparingly (currently on the standard plan), and doesn't even text. I can move her to a new provider and cover her voice needs plus no-need-to-worry-about-it data for $30, which is way different than what PP offers for $30.
I don't pay attention to my work BB at all, because I don't have to. I would pay attention to this new thing, and it is all new to me in this regard. I'm just trying to make sure I'm not missing anything here. I like PP and have no reason to leave them, other than their not offering a product I want.
I see. Well then it really depends on what your wife wants to use the phone for. If she just wants to use email, facebook, check the weather, and do light surfing then the TNT1200 would probably suffice although its overkill if she talks sparingly and does not text.
Otherwise, I would recommend the t-mobile prepaid web plan of $30/month since she does not need that many talk minutes although I suspect you already know about that plan.
yes, that's the plan I have in mind--along with an inexpensive Samsung Exhibit II.
Thanks for the feedback.
