I'm getting spam texts and I think it's charging me a $10 monthly fee.

From 62811 and something about a smart mobile quiz club. My prepaid account decreased by about $10 when I just reloaded it. I chatted with Tmobile and this is what the agent said:

!Lanz S: If the text messages are coming from other handsets, there are no keyword filters to stop the messages. Also, incoming SMS cannot be removed from accounts.
!Lanz S: We can change your mobile number if you'd like?

Is there seriously no other way to stop this?

Those messages are not coming from other handsets. You are a victim of a premium SMS scam. T-Mobile can block messages from a short code such as 62811 and should give you a credit for the money taken from your account without your permission. Call or start a new chat and keep calling back or starting a new chat until you get a representative who is willing to help you.

I called and the csr immediately knew what I was talking about. He blocked and refunded the charges. Thanks.

So the $10 was taken from your account when you added more money? I just got my first spam text the other day but deleted it immediately. I hope it's not going to take money from my account.

Incoming SMS can absolutely be removed from the account. I've had it done although it took two tries. I was getting several spam SMS/day and have received zero in the three weeks since turning it off.

Try telling the CSR you want to disable "all messaging, including that originating from computers." This is the language the CSR used for me when I chatted (the 2nd time) to get SMS turned off because they were 10c my balance to death.

SIde effect: it won't do outgoing SMS then, either.

Yes, you were probably a victim of a Premium SMS scam. This blog should help you understand what Premium Text Messaging is:
    Premium Text Messaging

You should also ask T-Mobile to block all premium SMS from your account so this doesn't happen again. Hopefully this helps!

Old thread, but I've been getting spammed on a bunch of my phone numbers. Some of them are getting several calls a DAY! One of my Boost phones had 25 spam voicemails over the course of a week, which is weird because I've had the number for over a year now and don't give it out.

Not sure why the sudden increase but all lines on my family plan (different prefixes too) are getting it, along with some of my prepaid phones. Along with just about everyone else I know. Really annoying.

I think I am confused about all the buzz. How are SMS being charged? I thought only sending SMS to a special number will result in a premium charge. It sounded like someone is being charged $10 simply by receiving an SMS?
