I'm not sure but I'm guessing porting OS 10 to the current gen of Blackberries is not a priority. Still, it doesn't mean they'll stop working when the new stuff comes out. It just means you might not be able to run the new OS.

Yeah, unfortunately from day one they've said that none of the current model BlackBerry's will be upgradable to OS 10. I believe it's a hardware limitation (no current model device is powerful enough to run OS 10 effectively).
Current devices do not have the horsepower, i.e. processor and memory, to run the QNX-based OS10. The same is true with OS7 not running on phones that were designed for OS 6.
I too was disappointed with this. I know with the 9700, they let us jump from OS5 to OS6. I know many people have paid a lot of money for their 9900 are not happy about it. In fact I think it sort of kills the appeal for people to want to buy the current Blackberry today, because a lot of people don't want to waste their money since BB10 is on the way, and promised to be much better.
BB 10 isn't due out until towards end of the year. We all know RIM's history for late arrivals.
Those of us w. BB 9700 just have to hope the aging phone will last another year.
Those who buy Androids know that their state of the art phone today is constantly being made more out of date a couple times a year. There are upgrades to the OS at least twice a year. Phones more than 12-15 months old are left w. no OS update most of the time.
Even iphone or ipad users know their implements will be outdated within a year.

T-Mobile lines on unlimited "family" plan - me, wife. Cost is about $80 a line incl. 5GB/mo. data on each line. We have had no landline in 7 years
