To be fair, the number assigned to you comes from AT&T/T-Mobile/Verizon/Sprint (depending on which SIM/phone) and they have basically no control over that. ST isn't responsible for those spam text messages coming from third parties. Even postpaid AT&T or GoPhone has spam text messages. I did a add-a-line (to postpaid AT&T) for a few months for someone and they got assigned a "new" number and yet got a bunch of text spam and random calls.
I'm not sure about the spam emails, I don't get them but there is likely an opt-out/unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email.
Depends on your state tbh. I get charged $0 in taxes on prepaid refills in California when buying through Walmart.com.
You have a call log on your phone and not everyone needs this
This is partially true. Yes you could get your data cut off for excessive use of data. However they do warn you about it first, so you do get at least 1 or 2 free passes.
You also need to understand that they don't allow streaming, tethering, or downloading files/apps via cellular data. (Granted you can since theres no technical limitation, its just ToS verbage). So just browsing the web or checking email is not likely going to get you in any trouble. The limit is 100MB btw, we just tell people this on Hofo since its a safe conservative limit. I have done 300MB in a day before without getting any warnings or data cut off. Its not that strict or laid in stone like what you've described.
ST isn't for everyone. If your getting ST, I do certainly hope you understand the limitations and are ok with it. For those that do find it a good fit, its definitely a very very good value.
