Angry AT&$ & You Tube Viewing Problem

For almost two years I've had problems viewing short (45 second to 3 min) You Tube videos while tethering my
Nokia N79. Videos don't load completely or the connection is dropped. AT&$'s cs has told me over & over again it's because I'm not using an AT&$ branded product. I can smell the BS coming through the phone! On my last contact the rep. said I needed to adjust my phone's settings to correspond with the carrier and sent a link for Browser Settings for the Samsung Captivate (i897):

    Name: ATT WAP
    APN: wap.cingular
    Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
    Port: 80
    Username: Not Set
    Password: Not Set
    Server: Not Set
    MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
    MMS Port: 80
    MCC: 310
    MNC: 410
    Authentication type: None
    APN type: internet + mms

Question: 1. Doesn't the phone automatically set these from the SIM or do I actually have to change
    settings?
    2. Any ideas/suggestions how to fix this ongoing irritation?

    Thanx for any help ....

Clear that setting out to see if it helps.

If the phone is not branded by the carrier, those setting have to be entered manually. Only voicemail and SMS settings are entered automatically.

This problem is probably caused by network congestion, reconfiguration or lack of coverage or the fact you appear to be limited to EDGE speeds on the Nokia N79 with AT&T as I don't see anything with the wap settings. Granted AT&T doesn't bother with a few of the extra settings like the port these days I highly doubt the extraneous settings would cause the issues you have with AT&T.

Since you are on the right data plan for your device, you are also using the correct APN.

iOwnj00: I very rarely have an EDGE signal, mostly 3G, sometimes 4G. Phone does not have the limitation you stated.

If that's the case then it could be a network issue with AT&T and/or the peering network. I bet your ping times to the Youtube server are well over 700ms considering that you're experiencing issues with small video clips or disconnections. I would not be surprised to see dropped packets and/or pings in the 1000-2000ms range.

Strength of 3G or 4G signal means nothing really. You could have full bars displayed, yet drop packets or run into high ping times once hit the click button to view content.
