Absolutely without grounds! Show me the proof that this, or any, attack was carried out by Huawei. You can't because there isn't any. All countries carry out industrial and military espionage. All countries spy on all others, this has been true for decades, but to single out one company and make them a scapegoat without any evidence to support such claims is truly pathetic.

The FBI and CIA have NEVER presented any evidence to support their cliams that Huawei is spying obo the Chinese government. In fact, they have gone as far as saying they have NO evidence but there is a possibility it could occur. The original roots of this paranoia were born out of the Cold War but were reseeded in the latest banking melt-down. Chinese companies are being unfairly targeted and prevented from setting up shop in the US because it's much safer for the US to blame others for the melt down of their industries than it is to actually accept responsibility.

I personally don't like Huawei products, or at least the product we get in North America, but I find it amazing that civilian and military agencies in America can spew what ever unsupported information they choose and politicians and Joe Public laps it up like it's their last bowl of milk of the day.

It boils down to nothing more than the most protectionist country in the world exercising jingoism and extreme protectionism.

    Your post didn't specify Huawei.

The examples I cited were Canadian. Last year's China-based hacking attack on Canadian government facilities is documented.

What is claimed, by diverse 'experts', is the exposure, not the fact (of Huawei 'guilt').

"China is a totalitarian government, and Huawei operates at the sufferance of the government, and those relationships are there. Even if Huawei management wished them away, they would still be there."
To deny there should be a concern is simply naive.

While I agree with some of your sentiments, that statement may be more applicable to China than the US.

In any case, my intent was to report the news.
In the AWS/cellular context, TAFL is Industry Canada's list of all base stations in operation, as submitted by the spectrum licensee the month prior.

The underlying database is Industry Canada's Assignment and Licensing System (ALS)
A subset of the ALS is published monthly as the Technical and Administrative Frequency Lists (TAFL)
Real-time access to the AWS/cellular data of ALS is provided by Spectrum Direct's (SD) Geographical Area Search

Don't worry, once China surpasses the rest of the world in technology we can hack them back and steal tech to upgrade our military. The circle of life. Why spend billions on R&D when a couple guys in a basement can get it for a couple thousand $ in computer parts.

I bet that only a small portion of hacking has been uncovered. The majority is still going on undetected. Even if the computer systems were completely fool proof. Employees can still be bribed or black mailed to leak info like the good old days.

Just accept and/or ignore it and get a good nights sleep.
When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

Although not directly referenced in that very article I had bookmarked from a while ago, Huwaii was the biggest if not the only competitor having access to the hacked information. It got so bad to the point that apparently Huwaii had the very same phone concepts that Nortel had designed released, in fact the prepared manuals that Nortel made for said concepts where even the same for Huwaii. Basically, the prototypes were ripped off. There is more information on this.

Assuming the source, saying there's a danger of espionage from a Chinese company is kinda like saying Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. You know this whole spying issue has been proven to be a red herring by the British, French and German governments, who along with other major industrial countries actually have a healthy working relstionship with Huawei.

    'Nuff said.
Why don't you ask companies like Google about Chinese espionage? A quick search will provide you more results then you would care to read.

With the amount of control that the Chinese government has over its citizens/corporations it very feasible that they could pressure Huawei into putting backdoors into equipment for them.

The fact of the matter is that the danger is real and present, and the Harper government should be concerned about it.
