Nokia Lumia 710 now available from Mobilicity for $249.99

The Nokia Lumia 710 is now available on Mobilicity for $249.99. I reviewed one a while back and it's a really solid phone - it has almost the exact same capabilities as the Lumia 800. The 710 has less storage (8GB vs 16GB), a sharper looking screen, similar battery life and a lower resolution camera.

Mobilicity launches Nokia Lumia 710 smartphone

Windows phone users now able to take advantage of
    unlimited wireless carrier’s unbeatable value

Toronto, ON – May 16, 2012 – Mobilicity today introduced the Nokia Lumia 710 smartphone to its line-up of popular name-brand devices, enabling Windows phone users, for the first time, to lower their wireless costs through Mobilicity’s unlimited talk, text and data service.

The Nokia Lumia 710 is built on the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system, combining a 3.5” touch screen and 5MP camera featuring HD video recording with powerful social connectivity and access to thousands of cool apps. It is available at Mobilicity for the no-contract price of $249.99.

Today’s announcement is poised to be welcome news to Canadian Windows Phone enthusiasts looking to take advantage of the unlimited carrier’s affordable service plans.

Mobilicity recently added 35% more value into its ultra-affordable, unlimited talk, text and data service plans, including free minutes of voice roaming onto several of the new offerings. The new features were added into the plans without price increases. In comparison, other new entrants increased their wireless rates as of late; while the nation’s Big 3 carriers have long been known for charging among the highest rates in the developed world.

I look forward to seeing if it's possible to install a Mobilicity ROM on my Rogers 710.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband. The reason Wind and Mobilicity users like pentaband phones is because the reverse is true. We're not the only ones who like pentaband phones though, so please stop referring to phones that work on Wind and Mobilicity as pentaband. It causes unnecessary cofusion.

So I guess that means that Mobi is officially in the microsim business now?

I would hope so - I can't imagine them requiring customers to get the SIM cut to use the Lumia 710.

Just chiming in to say that I just got the phone yesterday and I'm amazed at how easy it is to use!

Yes, you get a new micro sim when you buy it, and you have to activate it right then and there. I asked if they had a SIM adapter so I can switch between my Nexus S if I don't like how it behaves, but they said no.

So far it looks like I'm not going to need one as the Lumia is really smooth and seems reliable. It doesn't feel like it would crash any moment like some androids. There is internet Hotspot sharing which is cool. The camera is quick, but not as bright and sharp as my old Nexus S. Transferring contacts was easy! No more typing in each name again, just connect your old phone over bluetooth, run the transfer contacts app, and it'll just transfer all the contacts over! No need to copy over the SIM anymore!

I was iffy about the hardware back, home, and search buttons before, but after using it, I remember how nice it is to actually use buttons again.

It has all the apps I need. Skype, whatsapp, youtube. Xbox integration is awesome. Nokia Maps and Drive are slick. Everything runs off Bing search though. Which isn't as good as Google, but somewhat close enough. That being said, Internet Explorer is actually quite responsive. All the social networking is integrated into the OS, so you don't have to get the specific facebook, twitter or whatever app.

    tl;dr
I love this phone so far. There is still much to explore. For $250 against my old 500$ ICS Nexus S, I would get the Lumia all day long. If they were the same price even, I would get the Lumia.

Looking for a phone that is easy to use for my parents...I got them the Nexus S and they had so much difficulty using it even with upgraded to ICS. Would you recommend the Lumia?

I recommend blackberry. Many people are comfortable with a physical keyboard.

Ditto. That said the 900's keyboard is outstanding but if they think about it too much it's probably best to go with a 'berry.

Berrys crash all the time. I'd say Lumia 710 over any berry.

So I go to the Mobilicity store at 2296 Bloor West in Toronto to buy the new Nokia Lumia 710. In between the salesperson laughing like the village idiot while saying he doesn't know what phone I was talking about, I pointed out the numerous posters around the store advertising the phone, which seemed to surprise the village idiot....errrr......salesperson.

Mobilicity, please don't make it hard being a client of yours. This "service" didn't impress me, nor my friend who is with Wind. There's no way I'll be suggesting Mobi to my friend who would probably choose to suffer with Wind's network than to go with a company who employees a salesperson who finds his own stupidity (and lack of phones in stock) as something to laugh about.

Not Mobi's fault. Dealers dum assery is more like it. Are they an authorized dealer or a corp store?
