It occurs to me that vzw must see the inflexible demand curve for unlimited data. They will still follow through now, I expect. But down the road a piece they'll try to find a way to address the subscriber concerns that stiffen that curve -- only in a manner that better benefits the shareholders.

Well I don't want the crap apps either. I just shouldn't be forced to have unnecessary crap on my phone, whether it's battery consumption, space or spy/malware. However as far as TC's worries about big govt or anyone else spying on us: 1) they already can 2) who says any mal/spyware they hide on our phone will be in an app and not in the OS itself? So unless you're going to write your own OS or find a custom OS by a 100% trustworthy comrade in arms, you'll never know if there is or isn't some sort of hidden bogeyman inside of your phone.
Sam, I'm posting in support of dmaxfan's expressed desire to be rid of "crapware" without having to root and you concur, but also toss in subtle gratuitous ad hominem innuendo:
"comrade in arms." Tsk. So you want to use language now with Cold War conspiracy overtones -- and I'm being paranoid? Lol.
Yes, they can do a lot without access to my phone. Therefore, you feel it's best to give up and make my personal data easy for whomever wants it? If a mugger in the park wants your wallet, do you hand him your keys and point out the car, too?
Actually, you do know Google, at least, is there hiding in plain sight and doing some fairly detailed personal things...
But the OS and most PlayPlace apps are open source. I suspect that it would be difficult to match any bloatware source (& idk if it's available or not) to its object modules.
Since the internet protocols were designed decades ago as a trust-based system, it's impossible now to make anything "100% trustworthy"; even major government installations get cracked.
A padlock is easily cut with bolt cutters, but it's still better than leaving the door ajar. Does that perspective mean I should change my sign-on to 'jerryfletcher'?
This is kinda a bit off topic... again.

I found a slight update this morning from r/android, if there are any Redditors here:
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/06/04...ted-data-plan/
Seems to be confirmed both on that site and r/android that if you have unlimited data and are considering the S III, you can buy it subsidized and keep unlimited data if you pre-order it tomorrow.
Gotta have complete specs & bootloader status before that's practical. Remember that there's no promise GF unlimited will last out the year, anyway, much less a two-year contract.
I can still fall back to a used Tbolt or even a D4 and not have PLAN chip anxieties. Then wait out the D4 MAXX HD or the KB Nexus from the Google patent drawing.
I'm not signing anything til I've read the fine print on the official spec sheet and gotten feedback from real end users. If I lose the subsidy... so be it. When the salesman is in a hurry, he's talking to my back.

Really way too much thought into that bold'd statement. You have unlimited data for 2-years at this point we KNOW that. Let's say Verizon goes back on that statement (within the 2-year margin), you just get let out of your contract & free to do whatever anyways. I am crazy for even worrying about keeping unlimited data, it's a damn phone & if I really need internet access I need to manage my wifi points between travel destinations better.

Per, Steve, data is a feature and not part of the contract; it doesn't have to let you out to jerk unlimited.
Then, we don't "KNOW" didley.
And, like Steve, my cell is my only internet access. I'm rural, no WiFi points to manage. It matters.
What do you see "bold'd" ?

Correct, I did say that. But I also said that jerking a feature has never been industry practice.
Correct, you did say both things.
Still, "no promise".
If vzw says "indefinitely" or sets an explicit timeframe, I'll re-evaluate. Til then, what I posted is accurate and valid.

Absolutely.
I'll answer best I can based on 1) extenuating circumstances, 2) what reps have stated here and 3) my personal experience. Extenuating: I don't have mine to look at so can't compare notes.
Experience: I lost my Droid X and after continuing to pay the bill for several months, I called CSR to check out options. They said I could drop the data by activating a dumb phone. So though I was still subject to ETF on voice, I was not on data.
why is the Verizon unlimited data plan so **** expensive!?
Verizon only offers unlimited data plans for 6700 now?
