I look forward to a Q2 report showing a contrasting figure.
Can't see giving a free add-on causing a large influx of customers.
Also the free add-on is only limited to either VM or World Saver Talk/Text.
Tony Lacavera says that about 150 million canadians have held out on joining WIND in the last month because voicemail wasn't included. They expect to have 7 trillion subscribers by end of summer in Canada.
^^^
That pretty much sums up how accurately I feel the numbers are when anything comes from WIND/Globalive in Canada. It's "well over..." my ***. Well over 425,000 in end of Jan. would have had me assume they would be closer to 475K by today.
I am a little confused. How do you go from 415K customers in your financial reports to 430K. This to me screams bullplop and Tony trying to spin this around when the reality is that there are not doing so good and many analyts have confirmed this. How do you all of a suddent have 15K net adds when your own financial report says 12K adds with 415K in customer base.
Yes, Tony's estimates are usually very far off. However, by Tony's estimate, Wind had "well north of" 425k subs in jan and today they have "well north of" 430k. So, he changed his figure in 5 months by ... 5k.
But this is all Tony's estimates. Orascom reports are a different story.
When does Q1 end? March 30, right? It's now Q2 - and has been since April. Is it that crazy to think they've added 15K in those 6 weeks? Q2 ends at the end of June..and if they keep the exact same pace, they would've added 30 K. Isn't this figure in line with previous quarters?
WIND has too many stores and not enough customers to keep those stores making money.
The person that was in charge of this should be fired as they have no idea what they are doing and should of set up the stores based on other stores volume around them but they are just too greedy and want to get as many stores similar to how Mobilicity has done in the past and failed.
Why open up more stores in an area when the ones there are not doing well?
They can spin what they want but WIND has been dead since December so not sure what they are celebrating.
Also, they should of included voice-mail to begin with since they introduced the $40 plan as people generally do not want to pay the $8 extra even thought they need it.
This is just another promo that was planned for a few months and they are spinning it like it is coming out all of a sudden when they should really come out and say,
"WIND is not doing good and we need more customers so we are offering more to get you to join"

Here is the link: From February 4th 2012: Wind Mobile currently has 425,000 subscribers, he said. [he being Tony Lacavera which was interviewed for this article.]
Also curiously, WIND removed this bragging article from their community blog, they even cleverly tried to edit their press releases, and for some reason can't even access february's press releases from globalive's site. However, they missed some and found this one here: Dated March 20th, which is odd, because 11 days later, they were 10,000 short.Since entering the Canadian market two years ago, WIND Mobile has revolutionized telecom in Canada. Once ruled by an oligopoly of incumbent operators, WIND has secured 425,000 active subscribers nationwide. The wireless carrier launched in London in December 2011, bringing lower prices, freedom from term-contracts, and positive change to residents of the city.
More links for you from globalive citing the magic 425,000 they didn't even have:

I don't know, I like to compare trends.
Q1 2011, they added 39,000 subscribers, and were available in less markets than Q1 2012.
LINK
We know from recent news they added only 12 000 this year. Less than 1/3 of the year before. You know, some decent business folk would consider this bad. Sure we can argue that they've penetrated their market. But they service over 1 in 3 canadians, just in their current expanded networks. They potentially can capture 11 million subscribers. It's not good to assume they're penetration is already peaked, and slowed down this dramatically.
Now assuming we are seeing a trend in their growth declining with subscriber add-ons, from YOY, it's easy to assume they need to buck that trend in Q2. However, Q2 last year they added 45,341 subscribers.
It's no coincidence that if you use last years numbers, and divide them by the 13 weeks, and multiply them into the weeks of this years Q2, WIND right now is claiming they're basically on track to similar or greater years results from last years Q2 2011.
I don't buy it. They're full of it, and it's going to make them once again look stupid here when we discuss the Q2 results in August.
I'm aware of this claim.
What xtachx said was "north of 425,000." As you can see, that's not what Tony said.
He said "around 425, 000" which was in February. Who is to say that number did not exist at all? Do we know what their churn is like - which could explain 8-10k variance?
