Very interesting...so maybe the reason I keep getting Error 104 might have to do with an app I installed as well.

Hello,
After spending an evening installing all my preferred software on the phone, I ended the day by installing Hotspot Widget on the phone.
The widget didn't work but I left it installed.
I started getting an Error 67 and after searching the net for answers, I ended up calling VM.
We ended up having to do a factory reset on the phone as apparently something that the widget wants to do corrupts a file on the Elite causing the error, or some such.
Either way, unless you want to rebuild your phone like I am going to have to do, don't attempt to get around the lack of a hostpot function with that program. I was spoiled having hotspot on my OV.![]()

I tried the Quick Settings app to see if the mobile hotspot could be enabled and now I get Error 67 and cannot get a 3G data connection. I tried a factory reset and hard reset (volume down + power) and still when the phone reboots the Error 67 comes up with no data connection. Went through a whole troubleshoot routine with one of the Facebook VMUSA reps by telephone and now the problem has been escalated.
Any suggestions? And I agree...DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE AN APP TO ENABLE MOBILE HOTSPOT ON THE OPTIMUS ELITE!
No hotspot? Maybe the Elite isn't such a big improvement over the earlier models after all?![]()

It might require rooting the device to enable the hotspot feature. Fox-fi does not work with newer Optimus Slider either. ...Originally Posted by Churner

CON-Tracts??? We don't need no stinking contracts!
Bummer, I was hoping it would.I recently tried Fox-fi (the latest version -- which is all I could find) with my non-rooted Samsung Intercept, but it didn't work even though it acts like it is working (devices can attach but never get any internet service).
Does Fox-fi work with a non-rooted Optimus V?
I just factory reset my phone from android and again through recovery, and when I reboot I still get error code 67. Can anyone give me some advice?
Take it back and exchange it. Factory reset did not work for my error 67 either. Virgin mobile had no clue how to fix it, so back it went.

Threads split. Let's keep this thread on topic and helpful to the OP, who I'm sure did not create it to find out what your opinion on tethering is.![]()

I would go further and say do not attempt to enable hotspot functionality at all, no matter how you do it. The tethering menu is hidden, but it is there. I installed LauncherPro and made a shortcut to tethering menu, after I tried enabling tethering my data stopped working throwing the same 67 code. I did factory reset multiple times (hold power and volume down button during boot), I did data wipe through Settings > Privacy, I "activated" phone several times, nothing helped. In the end I just went ahead and exchanged it at BB since I did not want to call VM to have them reset my phone mid billing cycle. After swapping for new phone everything works again.
So if you bork your phone by trying to enable hotspot functionality you will either have to:
1. Have to call VM to reactivate your phone/account/whatever, and you may also have to do factory reset on your phone
2. Get a new phone
Until someone roots the phone and installs custom ROM on it (against current TOS by the way so it has its own dangers), I would not advise anyone to enable hotspot functionality, seems VM has locked it down tight.
I didn't write down the codes from VM to fix my phone, but I wouldn't suggesting returning good phones as that drives up everyone's cost at that retailer for all products. I don't like people who do returns as it shows they didn't do the research they should have before buying. I am excluding the obvious lemons, but not for those who simply changed their mind, or "broke it" and think swapping devices is the easy out.
There is a YouTube video that discusses this very issue with this phone. You will need one code from VM so you can take care of this problem yourself, but you don't need to tell them you have a error code 67, but I wasn't ashamed to tell them.
If despite the warning you try one of these work arounds and get a code 67, either call VM and get your MSL and fix it yourself, or have them step through it with you.
Sounds like this will end up costing VM more than any "lost" tethering would have, with all the returned/exchanged phones and customer service calls.
VM Journey= LG Rumor2>Samsung Intercept UD6>Motorola Triumph CM7 TG-Reloaded>HTC Evo V?
I wonder how many people really try to tether or hot spot? I don't know that the average VM user is that sophisticated. I think we think of ourselves as normal users, but I don't think that is the case. I doubt the average buyer does any research. Whenever I am at BB or wherever looking at the phones, there is a clueless sales rep comparing bullet points listed on the phones and telling people they should buy x instead of y.
I feel the returned Triumphs will far outweigh these problems.
