Did my own data test: Boost vs. Virgin Mobile

    Day 1

Ok, I bought a Warp. Activated on the $2/day android unltd plan. Ran Speedtest 3 times today at various locations and such. I'm in the mountains of Western NC. The download speeds where 278, 453 and 261 kbps. Uploads were 207, 883 and 536. Ping was 200-300 ms. I have to say on Virgin Mobile I averaged 300 kbps, sometimes hitting 400-600. For $20/month more, I don't think I will be staying with Boost. I expected double VM speeds, not 0-20% faster. Anyone else confirm my findings or got better results with Boost than me? I will continue to test for the next week and then make the final decision.

What plan are you on with VM? It's the same network so not sure why Boost would be twice as fast.

I'm still torn between VM and Boost because even though Boost is more to start out with, after 18 months I'll be down to $40 a month for unlimited everything. Hard to beat that, especially if you're looking for a long-term carrier. Problem is, at least right now I don't need unlimited minutes so it's a gamble if I will in the future and if the short term higher monthly bill is worth the longer term investment.

Those speeds seem pretty consistent with what I get in the Chicagoland area.

At $35/mo for unlimited everything I can live with the somewhat sub-par speeds.

I am in the Piedmont area and average around 512 kbps down and 390 kbps up. Have seen speeds as high as 1.5 M but mostly in the early morning hours between 3 and 5am.

I live in Cleveland, Tennessee. When I have my wi-fi turned on I get Ping: 57ms Download: 20765kbps Upload: 3206kbps, but when it is turned off I get Ping: 171ms Download: between 680 to 800 kbps and Upload: between 350 to 500 kbps.. I am paying 35.00 a month for everything unlimited and I LOVE my Boost service.. Good luck making up your mind..

I guess for the extra money I was assuming the data speed would be notably higher. I've read on hofo that Boost seems to use different servers possible increasing speed as well.

Maybe the extra money is just to compensate for unltd voice.
