    HUP admin fee

    Hi
Regarding the Hardware Upgrade Admin Fee $35.00, does anyone know what this is and is everyone charged this when doing a hardware upgrade?

Is there any way to avoid it?

    thx

It's an administration fee that Rogers charges to facilitate your upgrade process. This fee is always charged and you will NOT get it waived under any circumstances. All carriers charge this fee.

You know how when you go to Bestbuy and they charge you an extra $100 on top of the advertised price when buying a TV? It's just like that.

    No way to avoid it.

No I didn't know this, what is the $100 for and how is it similar to the HUP admin fee?

Also if I buy the phone on no contract will I still be charged this fee?

WHat about if I use a new phone I purchased elsewhere?

Dude, it was sarcasm. Most other companies don't charge extra fees on top of retail prices.

If you buy it on no contract you will still be charged the fee. If you buy it from a third party, not on your account, then you can avoid the fee. i.e. buying an iPhone for full price, contract free, directly from Apple.

^Rogers doesn't bill full price handsets to the account; therefore if paying full price in the store, the upgrade admin fee doesn't apply. (different from Fido)

That being said, MSRP is often $50-$100 (dealer dependent) higher than the month to month pricing to facilitate some profit.
