Something to the memory of Steve Jobs. I'm not sure what would be appropriate. iPhone 5J, New iPhone SJ, i5j. It would be nice to remember him in something he helped create, not an Ashton Kutcher movie, if you know what I mean.
lol, you're shunning what is likely the most accurate and observant assumption in this thread.
I'd rather all sequel phones of any manufacturer just go the car route and name them based on year. heck, cars already make the best analogies for phones.
IMHO i think iPhone 2013 would be rad. of course the 2013 would likely be a ghost moniker only seen when addressed amongst the older models. so I guess ultimately it would be "The new iPhone(2013)" lol.
I think "iPhone 5" has a nice ring to it. I think it should maybe be the last numbered name of the phone though. "The All-New iPhone" wouldn't surprise me either. The ghost moniker using the year of release would work as well. It seems with the iPad 2, they just called it the new iPad. For the MacBook Air for example, they have years such as (2012), but it is not included in the official name. It makes it simple to say you have an iPhone or an iPad. If someone wants to know which iPhone or iPad you have, you can tell them the year of release, just like a car, which was already mentioned.
It should have been labeled with the # to its generation ... And not throw in a G for 3G or an S for an upgrade to the previous model ...
iPhone 1st gen
iPhone 2 2nd gen
iPhone 3 3rd gen
iPhone 4 4th gen
Etc etc for each year/generation it comes out ... Regardless of what upgrades it got...
But that only makes sense to normal people I guess huh ??
iPhone 4S on AT$T: Unlimited Talk, Text & Web w/NO throttling…. iPhone 4 on Boost Mobile: Talk, text, MMS & 3G Data .. since 6.11.12
If you can't see that todays society has gone to sh*t, then you ARE the problem or PART of the problem…
guys 3GS came when Steve Jobs was still alive.....and then 4........and then of course he passed away. so it probably was appropriate to have it 4S....Anyways this is of course just my opinion.
ok so why did that generation iPhone have an S at the end..??
The 3G"S" was the identification of it being a minor upgrade to its previous generation… the iPhone 3G
The iPhone 4"S" was another identification of it being another minor upgrade to the iPhone 4….
Don't think the "S" have anything to do with Steve Jobs..!! Its just Apple's pattern.
Next will be either the "new" iPhone which is flat out ridiculous and idiotic as they did with the "new" iPad instead of labeling it iPad 3, or it will be the iPhone 5
Interesting name, not sure how I feel about it. Like it, but doesn't seem very Apple-like.
Didn't know the 4S was named 'S' for Steve, if that is in fact true.
yeah iPhone Plus(iPhone+) seems like it would have been the 3GS and 4S' name.
I didn't know the S was for Steve either. seems like back in the day of the 3GS unveil they marketed it as "Speed" which was the most solid explanation for both iPhones(3GS/4S) IMO.
oh! not sure if it was mentioned but iPhone LTE sounds likely too. that would make it technically the true successor to the iPhone 3G since it would mark a change in frequency tech like the 3G did. seems like HSPA+ is kind of downplayed a bit since its described as "faster 3G".

It would actually be sort of retro Apple-like. One of the very early Mac models was the Mac Plus.

iPhone LTE is one of the choices in the poll if you hadn't noticed.
I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.
