I tried it in Irvine Thursday evening at the Spectrum. I wasn't wow'd by my download speeds or pings because I've experienced better readings using HSPA+ networks but I'm not sure if the speeds were indicative of my area or just that evening? Upload speeds were better than what I've been used to on HSPA+.
The place was a ghost town. Hardly anyone there.
These were my two best out of 15 tries. I had great signal dBm wise and it was was after 8pm local time on my HTC One X using the default server from Speedtest.net.
To be fair I've gotten LTE speeds in the 4 Mbps down range even with Verizon at times.
Anyone get any killer 20+ Mbps speeds in Orange County yet?

Speeds aren't what they could be because AT&T can only deploy 5x5 LTE in that area. In areas where they can deploy 10x10 they're delivering speeds similar to and in a lot of cases faster than Verizon. From what I understand, AT&T only has 700 Lower C and Verizon is squatting on 700 Lower B. Now if VZW obtains SpectrumCo, there's very good odds AT&T will buy 700 B off Verizon.
Fiber backhaul for Verizon in Southern Illinois in 2013 - about time.
FWIW, several posts on MacRumors show 20+Mbps speeds on iPads in LA/OC on AT&T. The average seems to be in the lower teens however.
