Picked up the new Gusto 2 from Walmart today for $14.88. Didn't even know this phone existed. So far, its a great little basic phone - a better body texture than the original and feels good in the hands. Standard 1.3 megapixel camera, but the screen resolution itself could have been better. Overall, anyone who is looking for a basic phone (which are not many nowadays) could do a lot worse than this phone. I'm using it on the $50/month unlimited plan.
I didn't realize that anyone was still using a 128 x 160 screen. Even the old $22.00 LG 5500 had a 176 x 220 main screen albeit the camera being only 0.3 MP.
Does the outer screen stay on constantly? I miss the old monochrome outside screens, where you could check the clock, voice or text message waiting, signal and battery status at a glance. Color screens draw too much power to do that, they shut down unless you press a button on the phone.
Have you tried it out in a weak signal area? Past Samsung CDMA flip phones have almost all been notable for worse than average reception. Even though they all are based on the same Qualcomm chips, LG seems to be better at antenna design or something.
The outer screen does not stay on all the time. Much like the original model, it is a small color screen that is activated by a press of any side button, and also can be used as a front facing camera.
On that topic, one small feature I like on this phone is that the phone goes completely "dark" when charging at night, as in no lights or anything lit up. As I have my phone charging next to me at night when I sleep, having no lights or little red dots on constantly is a nice touch.
I have noticed that the vibration function isn't as strong as I have had on other phones. But the phone's ringers and ear piece volume is quite loud.
I picked up the Gusto 2 from Best Buy last week for $9.99. Not too bad for the price. Reception seems to be good at my home, haven't had the chance to fully take it out. Got it to replace a dying Motorola W385. Battery is robust at 1000 mAh. Haven't made a call out on it.
Only minus is a Verizon prepaid minus... Any plan change will force me into the current prepaid structure... My account is almost 6 years old migrated from Alltel at $0.15/min. Oh well. I will enjoy the extra long expiration dates.
