Is there anyway to physically transfer an app from one phone to another

Without having to use the market.. i want the only good craigslist app on my new nexus and its no longer available thru the market and all the tricks i have found to get it dont work, even though others have posted as recent as yesterday.. my wife has the app on her Galaxy S2 and it still works.. cant i access her actual files and transfer to my phone to get it installed?

any suggestions or tricks to get it onto mine would be great..

    thanks./.

You need to root your wife's S2, then use something like Root Explorer or ES File Manager to find the .apk file for the app you need, then copy it to an SD card and from there to your computer. Then transfer to your Nexus from the computer via USB and install it.

He could also modify his build.prop to fool the market into thinking his phone is "compatible". Again, this requires a rooted phone.

Another suggestion for rooted phones is to use a backup application like Titanium Backup, and copy the archive it makes over to the other phone.

Yes you can transfer an app from one phone to another, by using apps like dropbox and google drive. I don't know whether you would be able to access files from that app which is on your wife's phone.

Or just email the APK to the recipient. Just make sure the recipient's phone has the setting to install from unknown sources toggled to ON.

I just used the app "Bluetooth file transfer" last night and it worked really well.

First though I used astro file manager to make a backup apk of the app, then transferred it using the Bluetooth app.

You'll need the Bluetooth app on both phones.

Edit : sorry, just read the part about not using the market. If you'd like to PM I can email the apks for astro and Bluetooth and then you can side load them.

I just ran into a similar issue while switching phones. I had a Google Voice Callback app on my old phone, which is no longer available in Google Play. I used ES File Explorer to do this.

    1. In ES File Explorer click on menu button
    2. Select Manager
    3. Select App Manager
    4. Long press the app you want to back up and select Backup

It will then place the .apk file in /sdcard/backup/apps folder

Then you can transfer it to another phone via USB, Bluetooth, etc.

    Hope this helps someone else.
