    Unlimited Nationwide Long distance question.

So I moved out to Vancouver from Toronto and kept my Toronto number because I'm doing contract work and don't really know when exactly I'm going back to Toronto. I didn't want to go through the hassle of changing numbers because eventually I was going to go back. I'm on the Android Social 40 + Unlimited Canada Long Distance (added this via a promotion for $10/month) + Call Display. I was told this was the best option for my situation for keeping my Toronto number while in Vancouver. Ever since I had this plan my monthly bills have been the same which is cool but I've run into a problem recently. One of my vancouver friends recently told me that he's been charged more on his recent bill because of my number. My bills haven't changed at all so does this have something to do it incoming/outgoing calls for his phone/provider? I hope to find an answer to this scenario to straighten things out. I don't really talk too much and text a lot more but I've talk to this person several times so I felt dumb when he told me about the charges.

    Thanks

You've been lucky, it took VMC three months to sort out the promo'ed same long distance feature in my case. Long distance calls were charged leading to multi-hundred dollar invoices, which I had to call to get credits and the feature applied correctly that time around...

That friend of yours hasn't realized that he's calling a Toronto number and simply being charged long distance for it. He could add long distance to his plan, or simply have you call him instead, where the call would be local for you (not that it matters since your minutes are national).

So I would advice against telling him, but your friend's been the dumb one in this.

If you want people from Vancouver to have a local number they can call to reach you, get a Vancouver-area DID and forward that to your Toronto number. Just about every VoIP provider out there can do this for a few dollars a month. Heck, you could make that number a toll-free one instead for a bit more.

    Goodbye,

    Louis

P.S. That malik poster sounds an awful lot like some spammer trying to up his post count before linking us to some "wonderful" junk out of some obscure e-tailer.

Thank you so much for your response Louis. That clears up a lot. I should be more conscience about making calls instead of taking calls if I know its going to be a longer call. I'll look into the DID/VOIP options.

    Thanks again.

    Hey there!

Louis R is a smart smart man!
If your friends' number is a Vancouver based number, there will most likely be Long Distance charges associated with calling you on a Toronto number. Have him check in with his provider to see the options available to him!

    Thanks all,

    Lots of Love,
    Virgin Mobile
