You should be able to do this pretty easily by logging in to your account at the VM website,
and clicking on the "Swap Phones" link under the "I Want To..." menu.

I have 2 Optimus Vs. One I bought used (rooted with CyanogenMod 7)--I don't know how to use it or it's not working properly).
I also have a new unrooted Optimus V.
Only the rooted phone has service.
How do I go about switching the service over to the unactivated phone? I might need to switch back and forth a few times until I can figure things out.
Thanks.

Yes you can do it online without having to deal with CS , there is some type of limit like 1 swap per 24 hrs or something similiar so if your gonna be bouncing back n forth just look into what the limit is
Good luck
I've been trying to find the swap frequency limit on the virgin mobile site but I don't see it. I've tried to call their customer service but I can't seem to get to a real person. Any suggestions?

you can swap your phone once every 24 hours.Originally Posted by testerhf
if you can't find the details on the website? you can call cs and request for a "Live Advisor" each time the avr asks a question. the csr will verify that for you.
The website is being updated at this time and that might be a reason for incomplete TOS information. Revisit after the 31st of May.
if you have an account and attempt a phone swap before 24 hours have elapsed from a prior phone swap, the system will ask you to call CS.
CON-Tracts??? We don't need no stinking contracts!
When I tried to swap online I received this message after entering the S/N of the phone I was switching to. By the way, I am switching from an Optimus V to an Optimus V.
I can't believe I have to lose my MB just for swapping.Data Packs and Downloads (VirginXL) are not available on the phone you want to switch to. So if you make the switch, you'll lose any remaining MB of data and you won't be able to sign up for a new Data Pack. Also, you won't be able to use Downloads (Virgin XL) or purchase ringtones, games, or graphics.
Should I be concerned about the data packs and downloads?

sounds like a system error.Originally Posted by testerhf

I heard they charge $15 if you use a representative to do the switch. is that correct?

They can charge you a fee $10, but their system seems to track changes. I have had to call them on a few occasions to complete a phone swap and they have never charged me a fee for their help. They will also mention that they can see that you tried using the OLAM system. Then it becomes a trouble shooting call instead of a simple phone swap.Originally Posted by testerhf
They will charge the fee if you call them and ask them to do the phone swap for you. They always advise subscribers that you can do it yourself via the VM OLAM portal and avoid the fee.

just answer "operator" to each of the AVR questions. a "live advisor" will answer within a minute or two.Originally Posted by testerhf

I think my problem was that I was trying to swap to a brand new UNACTIVATED phone. I'll activate the new phone that I want to switch to and see if that works.
thanks for the help.
I'm puzzled how you could have gotten an Optimus V onto an account with Data Packs in the first place. All of the Android phones have always required Beyond Talk service. Data Packs are a feature of a grandfathered account with metered account features that predate Beyond Talk. There was never a time when it was possible to put a VM Android phone onto anything but a Beyond Talk account.
If the phone is on a Beyond Talk account, as I strongly suspect it is, then you should be able to ignore the error message.
Are you paying less than $25/month for service? If you somehow got an Android phone onto a grandfathered account, you might NOT want to call customer service and make them aware of it, because they'll correct that "mistake."![]()
I am a doofus. I was entering the serial number where the swap was asking for the serial number. It wanted the MEID and when I entered that it swapped very quickly.
