H20 per min plans look pretty sweet

I'm on Page Plus now, but I've been eyeing some GSM only phones so I was looking for an alternative. .05/min (at every level of pin cost) .05/text .30/MB, and fairly standard expiration periods. That's .01 per minute higher than I pay at PPC, but the same per text and .69 lower per MB.

Most of the complaint threads below relate either to CS or unlimited stuff not being unlimited. Does anyone have any warning about H20's per minute regime? For example, how is pay per use data really charged? The page on the site says per MB, and doesn't get any more specific. PPC charges per kb. If I use 1kb one day and no more, will that be a .30 charge or will it be a .0003 charge?

Thanks for any comments and cautions.

h2o data on PAYG seems to be charged by the byte (or at least KB). I have gotten charges for $0.00 and $0.01.

A caution on H2O by the minute plans is that there is a minimum spend of $100 for a year if a one year card is purchased...or $10/month if purchased on single or multi-month cards. It's great if you use the phone enough to use up most of the balance but might not be cost effective if it's just an emergency phone. It used to be a 90 day expiration date on $10/cards but now it's just 30 days.

Otherwise I agree it's a great deal for voice and texting on AT&T through a reseller. I'm using a dual sim Blu Rave android phone with the H20 sim chip in slot one and an ekit dual number sim chip in slot two (half domestic/half international call back). Keeping data cost rock bottom by using wi-fi run from my AT&T postpaid modem plugged into a cellular router or from other wi-fi sources. Also installed Skype which may come in handy for calling from international destinations back to the US from sometimes free hotel wi-fi.

I don't think you are saving much if you use an AT&T post paid modem.. Right ?

Wrong. I need 3.5 to 5 gb a month for multiple devices in a rural area, and postpaid is by far the cheapest option for wireless data.

I live in a remote area where hard wired internet or cable would be a "non-standard installation" charged by the foot, plus I need portability for travel and work, so it has to be cellular internet with wi-fi backup. The AT&T postpaid modem doesn't just drive the phone...it also is used with a MacBook Pro (direct or via wifi), a desktop PC, a Kindle, an Android tablet, and a Sony Mylo. Because the MacBook Pro is used both for work and home, I need postpaid service because that uses 3 Gb/month minimum(not counting the other wifi devices). Prepaid service is much more expensive than postpaid service...AT&T Postpaid is $45/month for 5 Gb with a corporate FAN discount. Prepaid AT&T would be $50/month for 1 Gb either directly with AT&T or via H20 Broadband service.

Im truly sorry for anyones negative customer service experience. I am part of the customer service team and cannot apologize enough. To be clear on our basic plan the cost for calls and text is 0.05, for MMS is 0.10, international text are 0.15 and data is 0.30 per MB. A 10.0 refill card is valid for 30 days and any remaining balance can always rollover as long as you recharge on or before the expiration date.

I believe you have to call their access number.
Otherwise it is billed through ATT and costs like $1/min.

    C/p from their help page:

"4. What is the International Calling to 53 Countries?

Now you have the convenience of making international calls right from your H2O® Wireless phone to 53 pre-select countries at no additional long distance fee. All you have to do is dial the special access number, 1-562-252-0100. You must hold an active H2O® Wireless service status. Access to cellular numbers in all countries will be excluded from this offer. Service line numbers or other special toll charging numbers in all countries may be excluded from this offer. For a list of major cities (on-net) please email Customer Service at customercare@h2owirelessnow.com. Applicable international long distance charges will be billed for direct dialed calls placed from your wireless phone. Incomplete, busy or no-answer calls may still deduct airtime. Service may not be available in all areas. See dealer or click here for our complete Terms & Conditions. Click here for a listing of our free international calling countries."
