This is the problem. We don't know. Is it location (tower) based? Particular types of usage? Particular times of day (high traffic periods)?

It was an automated message warning me that I went over and if I continue to do so i will be suspended for booted from using ST service.
It was from the 1800 867 7183 number. I know some people said they were scamming and not affiliated with ST. I gave them no info when I called back I just called back for curiosity. I hung up right about and they called me back 3 times! And left a voicemail.
This is funny because I have only used 133 MB of service with 5 days left on my cycle! I am useing IPHONE 4 with boyd sim and DATAMAN app for calculating data usage.
I then called straight talk for sure and told them what happened. Now I dont know if they checked my account or took my word for it that I had supposedly went over based on the call from the 1800 number.
I know some users have used over 2 GBs and have not received warnings... so me getting a call over .13 GBs is kind of concerning.
I then called back later and asked how much I could use.. the guy told me it is unlimited then I asked why I was being contacted for going over. He was puzzled and didn't know obviously.. so I got forwarded to tracphone and the lady gave me the spiel about closing out of facebook and not going on youtube and pandora. (I have just browsed and watched MAYBE 3 youtube videos not longer than 3 mins each)
Is ST really cutting back this hard on data usage?!
Or was this a mistake? The ST reps are terrible and dont understand.
Any input is appreciated.

That low of an amount of data usage shouldn't get you a call at all. Somewhere on this site there is an email address for a legitimate Straight Talk rep that might be able to help more than the call centers. Something isn't right in this case. Even if you did that whole amount in one day you normally wouldn't get a call.
For instructions on using Androids with Straight Talk don't PM me....I don't usually answer....click here!

So for the entire month you only used .13GB? You hadn't used any data and in one day used 133mb's???
Just wondering... they called me over 248MB's in one day of usage. I haven't used much data either but it's mostly all on one tower in one location.
They may be going on a per tower basis? Perhaps they figure you shouldn't use a lot of data on one tower as you should most likely be at home at that tower?
Anyone who travels a lot willing to test a theory? Can you use a lot of data in one day if you use it on different towers?
I buy broken/used iPhones (4 & 4S) on any carrier! PM me info about your phone and your asking price and I'll get back to you!
Were you tethering? Did iOS download a major software update in the background that didn't show up on your data counter?
Samsung Galaxy Nexus: 4.2.2 rooted with ST AT&T SIM & full Google Voice integration
The size of the update for IOS 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 is 177mb's so it's not that...
Nope no tethering and the .13 GB is for 25 some odd days! as I have 5 days left on billing cycle.
I did download the new IOS.. useing ST service.
I just don't see how I got flagged for such little use. Opened a ticket on facebook.
good luck and keep us posted. That really is bogus if true and the followup customer service is disconcerting as well.
Since the T&C, no matter how vague, always talks in terms of "impact to the carrier's network" I personally believe it has to do with the aggregate amount of ST traffic that goes through any particular tower. Let's say you are the only ST user in a town with 100 towers. Nobody will notice you. Now, if there are 200 ST users, who regularly use the same 30 towers, then you start getting noticed. They might then look at which of those 200 users out of the group is using "too much data."
Just a theory.
Ok, if you did download the iOS update over ST 3G, which the other poster says is 177 MB, then there is something wrong with your data counter. In fact, if you did download the iOS update, then your amount of data listed on the monitor app is probably how much you've used since the update, not including the update itself or what you did before the update. I don't know how your data monitor app works, but DATA USAGE app makes you go into the app before you reboot or turn the phone off, or it won't count any data between the last time you ran it and when you reboot. Only, I've had to reboot a few times when the phone locked up, so impossible to run the app first. So I lost how much I used between the last run and that reboot. I've now gone to using WeeTrackData, which is a jailbreak app. It seems to keep up with it in real time. But sounds like you may have really used more data than you think. And if you did the iOS update over 3G, them that 177MB would definitely warrant a call since I'm assuming you downloaded the update all in one day.
There have been a few other people claim they received a call with only minimal data use and someone at Straight Talk admitted it to be an error. Maybe try getting someone on ST Facebook page you can call and see if you can get a straight answer from them.
to the OP, when did your plan last roll over?
