Advice please, Ungrading and keep old baseband or install new

Im new to iOS and just bought a 4s. It's on 5.01 but i'd like to upgrade to 5.1.1 as the untethered jailbreak will be released tomorrow. The baseband on the phone is 1.0.14. Im wondering if their is any reason to update to 5.1.1 and install let it install the new baseband or should i try and stay on 1.0.14???

The phone is not factory unlocked and I might want to get a Gevey or something similar in the future but I think that even the new basebands work with the new r-sim or gevey. Can anyone advise me???

If I should stay on 1.0.14 for the baseband how can I upgrade to 5.1.1 and not update the baseband?

Cannot be done, baseband preservation requires the phone have a bootrom exploit, which the 4S does not. Gevey sim currently lists the basebands existing for current untethered jailbreaks, I am pretty certain once 5.1.1 untethered is released, they will update their site to support the updated baseband. If the GSM version of the 4S is supported on all basebands and IOS versions, why wouldn't the CDMA version be supported as well, it just requires a untethered jailbreak vs. no jailbreak for the GSM version.

My wife has 5.1.1 on her 4s with BB 2.0.12 which is listed on gevey's website as compatible. So, Im assuming that since theres no way to preserve the baseband on the 4s that it's ok to upgrade once the untethered jailbreak for 5.1.1 is released. My 4s is on 5.0.1 and BB 1.0.14 currently but I might be forced to upgrade, afterall if 5.1.1 ends up with an untether jailbreak and gevey works with the new baseband then theres no downside to upgrading right???

If your phone is from a GSM carrier and not CDMA, I don't see any reason not to update. My guess is once the untethered jailbreak is released, Gevey will update the site to support the basebands that come with 5.1.1 for the CDMA crowd.
