anyone using this phone yet? If so, how do you like it?
I hear the phone doesn't support flash, what exactly does that mean?

I would not want an android with blocked apps. I hope someone here weighs in on your questions. I want to think that info is wrong somehow. Like maybe you have to download from play store and install it. Lets see.

I don't think they block it... you can't install Flash on some android phones based on the specs of the phone...
I buy broken/used iPhones (4 & 4S) on any carrier! PM me info about your phone and your asking price and I'll get back to you!

I have the Galaxy Proclaim on Straight Talk and had the Ascend II recently as well. I have not seen a blocked application yet (I did install a Remote Desktop Client from the Google PlayStore, and Adobe Flash 10.3 comes pre-installed). It has YouTube just like other droids, and I haven't seen any blocked video issues. I am pretty sure the only thing blocked is tethering (which means rooting the phone to get rid of that limitation).

Keep in mind the Internet will be MUCH slower on a 3G phone as opposed to a 4G BYOD, I am only getting just under 1Mbps on Verizon's network with 3G. I actually prefer the slower 3G on Verizon so I don't use as much bandwidth vs. ATT 4g on BYOD. I don't really use the NET much though, except when on local wireless (which is what most should do).

The Galaxy Proclaim is probably the best native ANDROID phone on straight talk for under $200. I would say that it is definitely worth it to spend the extra $50 to $100 over the other Androids offered (even if you don't care about Sprint vs. ATT vs. Verizon).

    Why?

Proclaim Battery Life = Surprisingly good in standby. I charged the phone 12 hours ago, WIFI is on, and it has only lost 30% of its charge in 12 hours (impressive). The Ascend II had lost 60% doing the same thing for the same amount of time. There was another person claiming his phone drained in only a few hours in standby mode, I think he must have had too few bars and the standby was draining itself, because the battery life is awesome in standby on a clean run even with WIFI on. However, I do have a much stronger signal on the Proclaim on Verizon than I did on Sprint with the Ascend II, so that might be why the LONGER battery life.

    Things I like:
Battery Life for an Android (better battery life than the Ascend II unless it is ONLY because of my stronger Verizon signal)
Default OSD Keyboard is better than the Ascend as the letters have more spacing (of course can DL new keyboard for Ascend)
1 GHZ CPU and Browser loads fast using my local WIFI (browser much faster than the Ascend II @ 600mhz CPU)
Ridged backing makes it harder to drop the phone (the Ascend II was too slippery)
Better Native Web Browser Navigation, unlike the Ascend this phone has the built in pinch zoom feature and unzoom, the Ascend was manual at the bottom and it wasted space with a magnifying glass (probably can change this though with add-on)
Outgoing Call Quality clearer than the Ascend (although could have just been a reception thing)

    Things I DON'T like:

    Limited Incoming Tone Settings?
On the Ascend, I was able to set the phone so that every 2 minutes I was reminded by a beep that I had an incoming text message, on this phone I can only seem to make it so that the TEXT message Notification BEEP occurs only once, period.

    Only 3.5" Screen
, a 4"+ Screen would be better, I feel that since these phones are so slim, another 1/2 inch in size is not going to make much portability or pocket difference. The 3.5" Screen is probably good enough for most. The Ascend II also only has a 3.5" screen however. Also a higher resolution screen couldn't hurt to make browsing and viewing pics a bit easier, but the screen appears good enough for the most part.

Speaker Phone = Incoming sound on speaker phone is worse than the Ascend II, the Ascend II's speakerphone was exceptionally clear, almost like a desktop phone's speaker. It's still plenty useable on the Proclaim, but it's definitely not up to the same level of quality.

Overall Incoming Call Quality = Oddly enough, I think the Ascend II handled incoming call quality MUCH better, even though the Proclaim appears to be better at outgoing call quality. The Proclaim's sound just is not as good across-the-board (inferior speaker phone and inferior internal speaker). It isn't that bad, like it is fairly mild and doesn't cause you to have trouble hearing someone, it's just dirtier sounding (and I have a much stronger signal on the Proclaim than I did on the Ascend 2). Could just be the carrier difference, but I do have full bars. However, on my Ascend II everyone was telling me I was hard to understand (so outgoing was worse on the Ascend but incoming was better).

Default User Interface and Color Scheme - This doesn't really matter that much, but the AScend II did have a much better default user interface (except in the browser) and a better color scheme.

Overall, I'm fairly happy with the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim but wouldn't mind incoming audio to be a tad better on both the handheld speaker and the external speakerphone, as well as the screen to be a bit bigger (beggar's can't be choosers). The Ascend II was actually a good phone as well (especially for only $100) but the Sprint coverage isn't as good as Verizon or ATT for most of us, I would have kept it if Sprint weren't bad in my area. The Ascend 2 was fast enough in all applications I ran except the browser lagged a little.

dtmicro, thanks for the excellent post regarding the Proclaim. I prefer to use prepaid phones and am currently switching from basic Tracfone to Net 10. Same company but different services. I was flip-flopping between an LG Optimus Net and the Samsung Proclaim. I ended up going with the LG but I wish I had found this site before I bought the LG. Since the LG is barely out of the box I wonder if I could return it for a Proclaim. On the other hand I only paid $70 for the LG brand new and the best price I could find for the Proclaim was $130 and that's more than the LG plus the first $50 for unlimited talk, text and internet. Ah, decisions, decisions.

I don't remember if it was Amazon or E-Bay. And now that I think about it, it might even have been my local Best Buy. Sorry, I know that doesn't help much but once I decided to pass on it I sort of forgot about it. If I remember where I saw it I'll post a reply here.

I would just like to add that I go to school about 30 miles away from where I live and I still got data. I think the no roaming thing was just a rumor

I am currently using the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim. My phone's area code is in TX, and I live and use my phone in GA. I have no issues with the data. It works great. So, no roaming issues.

    Love the phone

A nice simple android and it works really well. Fits good in the hands but feels a little light but so does every samsung. Its fast and does hold a really good charge as long as you manage the battery by only texting and closing apps that you are not using. Too bad right now I cant seem to root it and start customizing but that is ok with me since its my first droid. This was really a test phone for me because I have had a Iphone for so long. But if this phone keeps me impressed like it has I can easily see myself getting a high end droid without a worry. Data is easy to track and as long as I am home the wifi does all my data

Basically this is a great phone if you want a droid but don't need a super computer in your hand.
