I've sent and receive a couple today and it seems to work fine.
I have a nokia n8, but from what I assume, txt should just work, just like making calls. You just plug in your sim card and go.

Hi,
I read a number of the forum posts and have manged to get my iPhone 3G to work for voice calls (send and recieve). However, when I try to send a text I get a Red Exclamation mark and it doesn't send. I also cannot receive any texts. I tried to turn off MMS in the settings, but this didn't change anything. Neither did turning off 3G wireless. I do not need data, so don't want to go to the $10 per month data plan as many others seem to have done.
I have seen many posts on how to set up data but none of the suggestions allow SMS to work on my phone.
Any ideas anyone might have as to what the problem is would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tniet

I got it to work. I put the SIM in an old Nokia phone I had lying around and sent and received a text no problem. After this I put the SIM back in the iPhone and it started working! Not sure what this did to the system, the SIM, or the iPhone, but it made it work.![]()
