    Question Phone in lake

    Hello,

I put the phone in rice overnight due to the late late night and had to work today. I turned it on and it was working ok. When there was a white background, I can see slight grey water puddles on the LCD.

Should I just leave in rice, or open the phone and try to dry it more?

I am at a loss between replacing it wht the Elite and the EVO (EVO only draw back is $5 more per month and no more 1-4% off cards.)

I would say to try and get it apart, can also use a blow dryer if it has a no heat setting.

I have brought back a phone that wouldn't even display anything on its LCD after being dropped in water by just leaving it in rice for a week. And at the end of the 5-7 days it worked as if it hadn't been in water, and no moisture could be seen.

So leave it in rice longer. Ideally more than just overnight.

The trick is submerge it in rice for over a weak.. with NO POWER going through it. it will take some time for the rice to absorb all the moisture from the air). Also make sure it is in a sealed jar.

Wow, lucky. I might have been tempted to give it two more soak and rinses in distilled water just to get all the salts rinsed away first.

Wow, I cannot type in this box in IE 8 lol.

Anyways, I will leave it in rice longer. I kinda need the phone, but I will try and leave it in there as much as possible. Will have to find a container with a lid on it.

I took the screws out and I could not get the phone open. I do not want to break it.

My wife's Slider is in rice right now too. It got wet last night. Right now everything works until you turn the screen off. Then when you return the screen back on, the touch screen won't work. Gonna keep it in rice the rest of the day. I'm encouraged that it already works as well as it does. Hoping a day with rice does the trick.

My brother's phone got dropped into some soda.

Removed the battery, held down the power to discharge any remaining power, and sealed it in a rice bag for 3 days.

Everything worked the only thing I had to was wipe the battery and case to get rid of the sugary stickiness.

Another example of why you should rinse it in distilled water, especially so if you live in a humid environment

This is your problem.. you have already lost the phone. You bumbled it and it fell in the drink. Now you need to save the phone... and if that means that you have to be without it for a week then so be it. Otherwise you will be living without it permanently.

I had a phone go through the washer and a camera that got wet in the snow. Both worked fine after putting them in a sealed container of rice. I've seen the water spots before on the LCD when the screen is on, and from experience, I've found that they'll dry and go away after a few days. Using the phone shouldn't be an issue, but I would still leave it in the rice whenever you get a chance.
