    Corporate vs Consumer Roaming

All of our consumer phones in western North Carolina typically roam on carolinawest with 1x data speeds. One member of our house hold has a work issued iPhone 4s ans gets extended 3G speeds while a consumer.iPhone and Razor sitting next to it pick up a weak 1x still. Is their any way to unlock 3G speeds on our consumer phones?

There is no magic feature that will improve reception like you are thinking.

You should confirm that you have the most up to date PRL stored in your phone. Don't forget that if you have an LTE device to not dial *228 from the phone for the PRL update.

If I'm annoyed and you're annoyed, does that make us a paranoid ??

From my conversation with tech support it seems to be a difference in prls used on each account. They are looking into it to see if they can give as a different prl to get better roaming features in this area.

We are still on an Alltel plan on the consumer lines it may be that our phones are still inherting the old Alltel roaming aggrement and are not able to take advantage of a newer deal Verizon has made?

It's because you are on an Alltel plan. I am on a consumer nationwide plan and get 3G on Carolina West. It's sucky 3G but it's still there.

Yup. I get 3G too. But it's not really "western Carolina.". It like 2 or 3 counties around Wilkesboro.

It all depends on your PRL, regular sprint prls only have 1x roaming but corporate have 3g. I changed mine on my iphone. It might be the same for verizon.

I get 3G there too on my consumer Verizon plan. It is a bit more area than one might think though, especially given the interstate/future interstate goes through it.

    Verizon's 3G network. ............................................ AT&T's 3G network.

    Verizon's 4G network.

So if I get the Business Advantage Messaging & Data 200 sprint plan I could have 3G on Verizon when roaming that would be great I don't need the extra minutes. Any other advantages or disadvantages to a business account?

Is this something I can change or only something support can? Any downsides from getting off an Alltel PRL in the Carolina's?

Verizon overlaps much of CWW's coverage area, but the native Verizon coverage is not that good. Just south of the Avery/Watauga line as you are approaching Linville, VZW drops out and the phone catches CWW from a tower behind the fire department. Not too much further and you pick VZW back up. There is actually a lot of that throughout Avery County, especially in the northwestern corner as you approach Roan Mtn.

I don't know if Carolina West is limiting roamers or if their network is just overloaded... their 3G is AWFUL!

The networks in NC were long ago merged. There would be no downside at all that I know of.

Interesting, I can get close to 1 mbps down on the one phone with a proper prl. Hopefully my ticket will eventually get me moved to a Verizon prl. Personally I would much rather stick to carolinawest's network over Verizon's in the roan mountain area. Thanks for all the great info!
