Keep BB BIS Add On with Unlimited Data?

I've been a TMobile customer for about 8 years. My current plan includes:
    - Calls: Unlimited Loyalty $50/month
    - Data: BB BIS Add On for $20/m less 10% discount = $18/m
I don't have a text plan, and get charged $0.20 for each of the 2-6 texts I receive each month.

I use an old BB 8120, 1000-1800 minutes and 20-25 MB data each month. I'm long out of contract, and want an Android or I Phone.

    1. Biggest problem: No Tmo Edge signal at my house and probably no 3G, so the UMA or WiFi calling is critical. I think this means no I Phone at this time, as there seems to be no way to receive calls to the regular cell number via WiFi on an I Phone. Is this correct? Also, must I buy a TMobile branded Android for WiFI calling to work? Is there a list of which phones will work? Will a prepaid Tmobile Wildfire S support WiFi calling?

    2. The small business $50/m unlimited talk, text and 5GB data is available to me. This would save me $20/month + free texting, but locks me into a 2 year plan. Based on my current BB usage, I can't see ever using 5gb; am I missing something? (I keep reading on here how important it is to keep grandfathered plans). I also think switching to a small Business plan might make them give me a new account, so my status would be new TMobile customer. Not sure if this matters. Would I even be able to switch the unlimited BB to unlimited data using IPhone or Android on my personal account?

    3. Does data usage or calls through WiFi count against the 5gb cap?

Any advice on plans and strategies for switching would be appreciated.

The other feature I would like to have is ability to use the phone as a modem tether about once a month when I find myself in a situation with no internet access for the laptop and need to download an attachment I can't see on the BB. Currently Tmobile does not charge me when I do this. Will I still be able to do this?

Thanks in advance for advice, info & suggestions!

Your unlimited BB plan will not work with most T-Mobile branded Android phone. So you'll have to switch to an Android plan. Retention department should still be able to give you a preferred Android plan for $20 with 5GB cap.

An unlocked iphone should be able to use your current plan. Just pop your SIM card into an unlocked iPhone. You'll only get slow 2G speeds in most of the country until T-mobile starts providing 3G on 1900 band.

No. T-Mobile does not track how much data you use on WiFi

T-Mobile is starting to block tethering on their branded Android phones unless you pay for the $35 5GB plan. If you do get an Android device that is blocked, there are ways to work around it so that you can still tether and not pay extra for the plan. It depends on the device.

Is there a list of phones with which it will work? I'm interested in the HTC Wildfire S.

OK, thank you. Sounds like if I need to switch I'm better off going to the Small Business Plan as it also has a 5GB cap but is less expensive.

So that is a way to keep my unlimited data - Good to know! I'm guessing an I Phone would have the same terrible reception at my house as the BB does, whether on Edge or 3G, and if I understand correctly, with the Iphone I don't have the wifi option, so reception would be worse than I have now.

Good to know also. Can I tether on an I-Phone with my plan?

That phone will only work with the T-Mobile Android plan. (or the business plan that you mentioned.)

The list is for tzones, but the devices should work on your unlimited plan as well:

Well the reason that it is less expensive is because you do not get any device discount. With your current plan, you get a discount on a new device every 22 months. With the business plan, you'll need to pay full price.

I think you'll need to jailbreak the iPhone to use a tethering program. It will work with your plan. Any tethering will be really slow on EDGE.

It doesn't require a jailbreak for tethering, I use the built in software on my iPhone when I tether it to my iPad or MacBook Pro. My phone is jailbroken only for unlocking purposes though. The only thing I had to do to get tethering working was put in the APN to get the option for tethering in the settings menu.Name: photo copy.PNG

Is it possible to switch from Unlimited Loyalty and texting ($50+$15) to Unlimited Value talk & text, but still keep my $20 BB BIS Add On (instead of going with the Value data)?

No, the system won't permit them to add a grandfathered data plan to a value voice plan.
