I am just glad there have always been alternatives to Google. Thank the Lords.
There has always been alternatives, valid, against GoogleMaps.
nokia has purchased a company and to be honest I think its the largest asset.
Bing Maps - another purchase and quite frankly horrible.
The issue I have with Google maps is although its great - especially the first person view - its not up to date. I just went somewhere in Hamilton where I lived for a brief time, at the exact street corner. The school right across the street has changed so drastically (completely rebuilt affecting the neighbouring park), Google Maps does not come close. Another example is my hood where I used to live in North York - again so much has changed in 10yrs I honestly find GMaps almost useless for new locations I've never been.
Mapping needs to be live and accurate - else its useless.

Are you talking about street view? How would you resolve that? How would you make it live? Permanent street-corner cameras?

I notice with Google Street View, much the same. Some parts of town here get updated often, where others haven't been updated in years. It might be that Street View gets paid by big chain companies to update images. I know with Satellite View, companies can pay for advertising such as logos on roof tops.
With WWDF around the corner, and a good chance that there could be a preview of iOS 6, what do you all think should be included this time around? What are the major missing pieces in iOS 5 that you would like to see added?
I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.

1. The iPad in our house gets used by everyone and there is no native way to lock it down between Mom, Dad and the Kids.
2. Even on the iPhone having a locked down mod would be nice for letting the kids use the phone while waiting for the buss etc.
I would love some enhancements to the browser. Like better text wrapping, option to view desktop only, more widgets in notification center. Audio cross fade in the music app. Camera effects would be nice also. Heck why not a file explorer. Ability to download in the browser. Ability to save songs received by email or downloaded to the iPod/music app. Ability to move photos to an already created album. Over all it will be nice to make the iPhone rely less on a computer. We'll see what happens.
About half the stuff one finds available through Cydia that does not compromise the integrity of iOS. There are some really nice jailbreak features available that should be native to iOS. One example, pull down and release update in Safari instead of clicking the reload button. Also from a quick scan of popular Cydia apps:
1) Face recognition unlock (RecognizeMe)
2) Add more icons to the iOS dock bar (Infinidock)
3) One touch Notification Center clearing (FastClear)
4) Improved weather icon (WeatherIcon)
5) Lock folders from snooping (FolderLock)
6) Add substantially more apps to a folder and scroll through them.
7) Move multiple apps (MultiIconMover)
8) Put apps anywhere on the screen (GridLock)
9) Themes (Winterboard)

Have SMS messages read outloud. Vlingo will read emails and Facebook updates but not SMS. Extremely needed while driving
1) better implementation of the lock screen info. I'd like to see an API developed that would allow developers to create plugins so the user can decide what info is displayed.
2) Better voice integration for older phones, like the 4, allowing voice dictation for SMS, mail and automatic text to voice of any text, like SMS, mail, safari.
3) one touch access to various settings, a la SBSettings.
Unlocked iPhone 5, unlocked iPhone 4
Unlimited airtime, Unlimited CAN/US long distance, Unlimited SMS to CAN/US wireless numbers
2500 Call Forwarding minutes to CAN/US numbers
CiD, 6GB
Google Voice for visual voice mail with message transcription, conditional greetings, unlimited messages (vs 35 message cap), remote retrieval from any PC or phone, no auto-purge after 10 days and most importantly no $7-$8 charge.
$53

That reminds me of something I asked Apple about implementing as a safety feature. I want the ability to designate various contacts as In Case of Emergency contacts. Contacts labeled as such could be accessed and dialed from the emergency screen while the phone is locked. Right now all you can do is call 911 but having the ability for a first responder to check your phone for people to notify would be a big help. I kept ICE entries on my old Motorola V360 that could be accessed in an emergency. Even now, I have contacts labeled ICE but they cannot be accessed if my phone is locked.
