New glass on 4 and 4S replacements not working with polarized sunglasses
I am NOT happy. Having issues with my iPhone 4 I took it to the genius bar and they replaced it with a new phone. I didn't realize until I got home that I can hardly see the phone with my prescription polarized sunglasses....the SAME sunglasses I had no problems using with my 2, 3, 3GS and first 4. Ahhhhhhh. Now my sister tells me she can't see her phone with her 4S and polarized sunglasses.
Why? Why? would Apple do this? From what I can tell online it started showing up sometime around Oct. '11.
I've reported it to apple support but somehow I don't think they're going to change things just for me.
And no, I can't just go buy another pair of sunglasses (which i wear ALL THE TIME). They are prescription and cost as much as a non subsidized phone.
I guess I just wanted to see who else is having this problem.
There was always some small polarizing effect with LCD displays, it is the nature of the display. I saw some with both my 2G and 3Gs. However, it is not consistent across devices.
You may just need to try and swap the phone for a different one. There will always be some polarization effect, you just need to find a phone that minimizes it.
Apple sources LCD displays from at least 3 different suppliers and there are noticeable differences between each, not just as far as polarization, but also in terms of brightness, color temperature, color gamut, and other parameters. Unfortunately it's a crap shot which one you get when you buy (or replace) an iPhone.
I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.

iPad3 does the same thing. In portrait mode, it's unviewable-like it's not even on. Landscape mode is just fine. And I'm using polarized sunglasses. Freaked me out the first time this happened. Just the way the display works I guess. I have a Blackberry 9700 that I have to tilt sideways to view also. You'd think designers would know this and adjust accordingly...guess not. :/
