Question In call notifications are too loud, how can I fix it ?

I have a Samsung Galaxy SII with a stock ICS rom (but rooted) and while I am in a call, if I receive a text message the notification sound is played at full sound right in my ear. It is very uncomfortable plus the other person can hear it too. One solution would be to turn down the notification volume, but then I won't hear it when I am in another room.
Basically what I am looking for is a discreet low volume sound for all text messages while I am on a call while keeping the normal louder notification sound if I am not talking. With my previous phone (Nokia N8) that was the default notification method. Where is the setting that does the same thing on Galaxy SII / Android ?

You could try setting a different notification tone for the incoming SMS that is less annoying for you.
If I'm annoyed and you're annoyed, does that make us a paranoid ??

Or you could just turn them down. Settings/Sound/Volume/Notifications.

Why would I turn it down, I still want to hear in the house? And the notification sound is not annoying, it is the full volume played in my ear. Also, is this "bug" present on all Android phones or is it just the Galaxy SII?mI

I've had this problem before when I was running Gingerbread on my Nexus S, but never found a solution. However, it went away by itself when I upgraded to ICS. During calls all notifications are muted.

I wonder if you have some other app that you aren't mentioning, my Note plays the notifications perfectly. I do remember somewhere it asking me to mute them when on a call though.

I had installed Tone Picker at some point trying to change the default notification sounds, but I have uninstalled it a while ago. It seems though the notification sound is not such a big deal with the default sounds, the only problem is they are kind of soft and low volume. I guess it is better than a custom sound that makes me deaf, but I wish for a setting which allows to mute all notification (text, battery, email) while in a call.

Could you please search in your phone settings maybe there is an option for it? I've looked in my phone but I couldn't find anything.

I have. Can't find anything. I am pretty sure it's a bug. What ICS version do you have on your phone? Mine is 4.0.4.

That is strange situation to exist. I dont see solution in defaults on bionic/gingerbread. If you are talking only about texts, handcent will solve it in meantime. Another option is headset ( my norm).

The problem happens not just with texts, but other notifications, like email, facebook, whatsapp, etc.

May I ask a question: per link dated May 19, Telus is to roll out ics for gs2 on Jun 12. Did they do so already?

    http://mobilesyrup.com/2012/05/19/te...ted-june-12th/

I tested my stock bionic/gingerbread 2.3.4 with all default settings. While on call and receiving text, no audible notification occurred but on-screen notification did. There is no setting to change this (some might think it stupid for such a setting). Handcent app does have a setting to enable audible notification while in call. Default is off. Do your texts default to a market app?

No, I don't have a market app for texts, everything is default. I had Gingerbread on the phone for a short time and I think the notifications were silent while in a call, I suspect it all changed in ICS.

According to above link, you don't have ICS yet. How can this be?

If you are referring to me, I am using the BELL version of the Galaxy SII which is the same one as the international one. It received ICS a while ago.
