Because USCC just got the GS2 this year. With the thinking that it would be a solid year before the GS3 ever filtered down to USSC, a lot of people bought the GS2. And low and behold, USCC finally gets a new phone along with the rest of the country for once. It is fantastic, yes, but can you see why people like me might be rather frustrated? I bought the GS2 soon after USCC finally got it, so I am not in the time range to be able to return the phone and I cannot use belief points to upgrade yet.

Make no mistake, though, this is due to Samsung, not USCC. Samsung wants their flagship phone available to as many people as possible. But what Sammy has done this time, is they have used their weight to force things to go their way. What ever happened to the famous USCC testing phase that supposedly takes so long? What about carriers adding their crapware apps to the phones? Samsung has forced the carries into to taking the phone straight out of the box, with no time to add in their junk. It is a huge coup for Samsung and Android both, and I hope it continues. However, I do not see this happening very often, only for the largest releases. I do not think the quad core version of the GS3 will be such a huge launch, and USCC will go back to getting scraps around a year later.

That said, I was trying to rationalize if I could go for the GS3 anyway. But I do not think it is enough of an upgrade for me to make that reach just yet. The GS2 has been rock solid for me, and I think it is embarrassing that the US has to get a watered down GS3 because of LTE chipsets while the rest of the planet gets the full quad core version of the phone.

Ive been available for an upgrade for a year, but I waited and passed on the GS3 because I knew that something good was going to come this year, and I'm not going to get a 3G phone this year when we have 4G.

Id rather have 4G LTE anyway than have quad core. Also, the iPhone 4s isn't even quad core, not many phone are, so 1.5 ghz dual core won't be that bad.

1.5 ghz 4G LTE for me will be huge over my HTC Desire that I've had for nearly 2 years....

From what I've read the dual-core outperforms the quad-core at some things and the issue is namely that the LTE radio is built into the chipset on the dual-core while the quad-core would require it as a separate package (more power drain, more equipment to stash in the hardware). It'll be interesting to see a side by side comparison when they come out, but 2GB dual-core vs 1GB quad-core might mostly cancel out.

I do agree with you that the GS2 to the GS3 is probably not a worthwhile endeavor. In my case I'd be coming from the Desire (123MB of user storage or so). Also, we have a great 4G footprint for USCC here in Maine.

I'm not too keen on Touchwiz, but I'd hope that the Cyanogenmod folks will end up with a good CM9 build since (if memory serves) one of them is working for Samsung now.

In all seriousness, if the HTC One X had a CDMA/LTE version, I'd probably go that way because I like HTC hardware a lot, but this should do the job and I'm tired of running out of memory and not being able to use/install apps.

Yeah, we don't know if the quad core or dual core will have better battery life, but one would think that a quad core in a phone will drain more battery.

And I agree on the 2GB dual core vs the 1 GB quad core.

I don't think the 2 phone will be much different really.

I suspect if they used the quad core and had to have a separate LTE radio, it definitely would've been a bigger battery drain compared to the integrated chipset. I'd rather have the battery life above anything.

On the plus side, the odds of Seidio having accessories for the GS3 is high. They decided against having them for the Desire because USCC was the only provider of it in the USA. They do have accessories for Galaxy Note and the GS2.

Oh yeah, id rather have better battery life anyway.

Also, there is a feature where you can have a small video playing on the screen that you can move around while doing something else on the phone.

I wonder if that feature will still work on dual core instead of quad core.

Aren't there GPS issues with the GS2? From my understand those are still unresolved, and if that is the case I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung cut US Cellular a deal because of it.

In regards to the dual vs quad core... Most COMPUTERS barely use dual core, let alone quad core. Only thing that uses quad core is hardcore games like battlefield 3...and even then a faster dual core may very well outperform a quad core.

IDK about you guys but I'm not planning on getting a phone to show off my 3DMmark scores

Unless you are playing video games on your cell phone, or maybe high resolution videos, the critical part is definitely network transfer rates, which having a 1.5 ghz dual core wont make much of a difference over a 1 ghz single core (Desire). The fact that cell phones have 2 GB of RAM is incredible. The only short falls I see with the Desire is internal memory is low, no 4G, and no front facing camera

Sorry if already asked, but is ussc providing any microSD card with the phone? My Desire came with one. Just curious and haven't seen any info. Thanks in advance.

Don't know the answer to do that but I'd think not since the unit has 16GB or 32GB internally depending on the model you buy.

I'm curious if USCC will be offering the free Dropbox storage (50GB for 2 years). Verizon and AT&T opted out, but nothing has been said about T-mobile, Sprint or USCC.

USCC doesn't with the Electrify and SG2 which both come with 16GB of internal so I doubt it.

I was thinking the same thing. Ill be so pissed if that goes through, and I have an iPad and Macbook. I don't know why they have to be so greedy.

In terms of the S3.. Would Seidio have OEM battries? Any suggestions? I don't want the $3.00 Asian batteries either lol...
