I was wrong now they have GrooVeIP Lite for Free.
Downloaded the vonage app & have used it a couple of times on both wifi & tmobile's HSPA+ network using the HTC One S. I was pleasantly surprised at the call quality, I tried groove-ip paid version & talkatone and they both performed poorly both on wifi & tmobile's network. The plus about the vonage app its ability to display my number on the receiver's caller-ID plus the vonage app tightly integrates into my address book.
Now I'm able to use a the $30/ 5GB plan without the worries of running over my 100 mins....
Calls sound good. I wonder how long they will be free. I never should have bought groove ip.

P.S. if you like our app, we'd appreciate if you rate us on Google Play. If you're a linkedIn user, we also have a product page where you can recommend it to your professional network.
if your having problems with grooveip then your settings are wrong.
I have a question Tzahi. I've been using GrooveIP on the Galaxy Nexus and get complaints from people about echoing. I tried Vonage just now and it is getting good reports so far. My concern is just how much will it cost per minute after the free calling limited time is up. Is it .01/min or do you have some other plan? Skype costs around $30 a year when getting the 12 month unlimited. If Vonage offers something like this it might be worth looking at. What I don't want to do is start using a service that will eventually end up charging some crazy fee later.
Hi zoor,
While I'm working on getting an answer for your question, I would like to understand more what are your needs. If it's just calling US numbers, then there's no risk. You don't have to pay anything (until the promotion is over of course). If you're calling someone who hasn't download the app yet, there's no commitment. You just pay $4.99 or $9.99 and that's it. You're not bound by any plan.
Also, we tried to make the payment as easy as possible, so we enabled it as an in-app purchase. Your payment is handled through the AppStore or GooglePlay and there's no need to re-type your cc details. Do other apps provide this seamless and secure way?
I just installed the Vonage app and tried it, and it works. Can you clarify the above statement? I don't know what that means. If you're calling someone who hasn't download the app yet, there's no commitment. You just pay $4.99 or $9.99 and that's it. You're not bound by any plan.
Can you call a landline or phones that dont have the vonage app
test
I'm confused by your answer. All that I need to do is call land line US phones from my mobile using the Vonage app. At the moment this is free. What I am reading, and please correct me if I am wrong, is that in the future it will be a $4.99 or $9.99 app price in order to do this. Once that is paid there are no other charges associated with calling US land line phones from the mobile app. At the moment I have no interest in calling Vonage to Vonage and am only interested in Vonage Android app to US land line numbers.
Thanks,
Robert
I use data and text more than voice. I usually used up about 50-70 minutes on my VM plan, though if I talked more some month it was no biggie. Also, minutes are just ten cents after you use up the 100. So for $35, you get 150 minutes and 5GB of data vs 300 minutes and 2.5GB of (slower) data on Virgin Mobile. If you prefer data, it's a no brainer. For $45 you get 300 minutes, and of course since you are paying per-minute, anything you don't use rolls over.
So just stick an extra $20-50 in your account if you sometimes talk a lot, and don't worry about it. If you talk hundreds to thousands of minutes, this is probably the wrong plan for you.
Don't pay the t-mo ten cents/minute overage; use Vonage Mobile app on your Android, and right now get free calling.
Even when they start charging for it, it won't be anywhere near as expensive as ten cents/minute. Plus, funding Vonage Mobile minutes means you have complete flexibility on when you fund them and when you use them, without artificial calendar constraints causing you to lose use of those minutes.
t-mo is nice enough to give us all that data; let's use it.
I've been using Vonage for the past few days on ATT before I move over to T-mobile prepaid and must say it appears to do a pretty good job. I just signed up for the $30 5gb plan so I haven't tested it over the air but via wifi it's going to be my choice of the lot. A lot cleaner than groove-ip or so the people I have tested it with say.
