Lightbulb Thinking of switching to Sprint.. ATLANTA Kids jump in here.

I've had Verizon for pretty much my entire adult life (well, since 16 years old on my parents old account, GTE, then Alltel, then VZW)..

I absolutely love Verizon and their phone service, and 4G is AWESOME. I have 4G 90% of the time, and haven't dropped a call in years.

Recently Verizon has made many changes to their accounts, and will soon be eliminating unlimited data even for grandfathered customers. Anytime someone buys a new phone at the subsidized price, they will lose unlimited. Only if they buy a phone elsewhere (read: used) or pay full price through Verizon (or partners), will they be able to retain the unlimited data. I use 3-5gb a month between tethering, email, attachments, and multimedia/music streaming while I drive. I'm in the car majority of my day.

Our company has a Sprint plan with unlimited everything, zero expense to me. They'll pay my cancellation fees with Verizon, and i'll never see another bill again. May include mobile hotspot as well, waiting for confirmation. They'll also give $100 towards a new phone at subsidized rates and anything outside of that, I pay the remaining balance. Pretty damn good deal from where I sit.

HOWEVER - How is service? How is 4G in my area? I'd love to hear from Atlanta and GA folks on how things are for them and how often they get 4G service. I travel the whole state, so I need to know that i'll get full voice AND data everywhere I go. Right now, besides few minor rural exceptions (1X vs 4G), I have zero problems and full reliability.

Sorry for the book, but this will be a bit of a risk on my part that should pay off, assuming service is good. I had Sprint at one time when I originally had Nextel and Sprint assumed the company. Went downhill pretty much immediately, and I dumped as quickly as I could. This was Florida, and everyone I know in Tampa that has it, hates it. But, this is not florida..

    Thanks for the help.

Just an outsider on Verizon here.

First, of course take employer deal. What's the risk? You might get throttled (in spite of denials).

Wouldnt your company have other employees with Sprint experience?

Why cant you keep your Verizon acct out of caution or for personal use? You could always cut it down. I wouldn't get rid of it unless it has absolutely no value to you or is a burden. Then you could sell it.

While not live yet, LTE is coming to ATL!! I don't recommend getting a WiMax phone, only get an LTE capable phone since LTE is about to launch very very soon.

Is there any risk in trying it out? You should have 14 day return window, if not 30. And don't they roam off Verizon?

    This might help:

EVO LTE owners have reported connecting to 4G in Atlanta. There seems to be some variance to it most likely until it goes "officially" live over the next month or so. http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc...e-atlanta.html

Why not port your number to Google Voice in the event it does not work out? Your in a no loose situation!

Only buy an LTE device as it seems your market is ready to go live.

Funny you mention Tampa, my step daughter just graduated from U Tampa and was on Sprint the entire time. We never had any issues there or the Pinellas County area in general.

While the Atlanta area will soon be lit up with LTE, the rest of Georgia will be slow in coming. Sprint's native coverage is Georgia is decent, not great. Their coverage overall because or roaming is great. However, if you like to talk while you drive, you will drop calls because you will be going in and out of native coverage. If you make your calls while stationary, then you should have no problem.
All of that being said, take the employer's offer but keep a PagePlus handset in the glove compartment just for those occasions that require Verizon native coverage.

Sprint will rock the house in Metro Atlanta, starting this month... Don't know about LTE, but 3G will be spectacular on both 1900 MHZ and 800 MHZ.. It's an audio streamer dream with that urban antenna density and 800 MHz CDMA in building penetration

lol nooooo, my GF's stepfather doesn't know anything special. he was just saying he experienced greater than average speeds on his EVO in Atlanta and it was significantly better. nothing official just his own personal observation. my GF told me about his experience right after I explained to her what NV was.

Hehe cool deal, ATL is an early market to get NV/LTE upgrades. It sounds like some are starting to experience improved network performance.
