Had an issue with the white one, the screen auto dimming was working but it was going too dark in all situation. (Lucky I had 2 to notice that one of them was dark) Ended up exchanging it at BB and no issue with the new one.

I personally had 0 crash on both phones, if you get thoses a lot, maybe the hardware is bad..
    +1

It has not crashed on me yet. What exactly were you guys doing when it crashed? Is it an app that you launched?

Apps freezing is not going away. "google.process.gapps has stopped responding" is always the culprit. Tried cleaning cache on core apps but still no better. Tried calling Telus and got a nice message that I could expect to wait 30 minutes to talk to someone. That was not good news as I never waited very long before to get through. Oh well, google is your friend and I am trying there now.
Any other "real world" battery quotes?

I have the S2X and was thinking about upgrading and thinking if its worth it based on battery life....

So far it is giving decent life for me. Extremely heavy use will drain it in 11-14 hours. It has a heavy power draw for the big screen and high end cpu, but if you keep it in the pocket and not play on it constantly then no problem going from dawn to bed time.

Iphone 4s still seems to be the best high end device for battery life but this phone should be giving you a full day of use with normal to relatively high use. But in those first days I tend to use the new toy a ton so I did have to give it a boost near the end of the day yesterday. I did make lots of calls, play lots of games and just had it running for a long time. Was in constant use for over 6 hours during the day to get to the point where a charge was required later in the day.

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.

Other than having my phone lock up once (turn off, remove battery, intsll battery & turn on) when I was trying to register it with Telus, I have had no apps crash whatsover. After getting used to using ICS after 30 months of iPhone use, I am liking this the Galaxy SIII quite a bit. Still feeling my way around, but the more I play, the more I like it.

The battery is lasting around 14 hours with heavy useage was my experience. Likely after getting over playing with the phone all the time and learning what services don't need to be on all the time, the battery life will be extended decently. I expect it will be a once a day charge or maybe even a bit longer.

I imagine that phone carriers were pretty busy with the launch of the new phone and the lines were busy. When I had to call in to register the phone and work out some other issues nonphone related, I was on with them for 90 minutes. Hearing of very few problems with the phone having issues at this point.

Overall I am pretty impressed with the phone, just wish more cases were available, but it is brand new, so I expect in a month there will be some decent choices out there. I have a silicone type case keeping it safe in the mean time.

I charged mine yesterday afternoon and I still have approx. 25% on the battery. I didn't make a lot of calls but I did a lot of downloading and apps installation.

In the notification window, you can turn on power saving, that's what I did and I think it helped increase the battery life.

A little bit under 9h here and I was down to 8%.

I played with it quite a lot (Facebook, emails, browsing), plus I listened to music using Bluetooth headphones, and talked on the phone for less than 10 minutes.

An update on my issues. Called Telus and the lady fielded her first call for the SIII. She passed me onto Samsung right away as she had no idea and told me that. Points to her. The support rep at Samsung told me it was a google issue. First I thought he was passing the buck but after one soft reset and two hard resets problem seems to be solved. After the first two resets and the same error message coming back I decided to hard reset and then bring the phone up clean.

I did the hard reset and then did not sign in with my google account when it asked me too. The firs hard reset I did sign in and it restored the phone including apps, contacts, preferences and all, including the error again. When I didn't sign in the phone came up clean. I added my google account and installed my apps one at a time. Put all my accounts back in and since then, 24 hours now it is working fine with no more error messages.

The rep at Samsung said it was something to do with google and their sync data and I guess he was right. When I didn't sign in and sync the phone was fine.

Now I just want to go into the google dashboard and delete everything there to make sure it doesn't come back.

As far as battery I installed juicedefender ultimate with a great improvement. Will give another update on that in a few days after I get some "normal" usage.

PS. got a nice sms from Telus apologizing for the issue and a $10.00 credit on my account. Wow!!!

This plus turning off animation and transitions (under Developer options) makes it seem quick. Power saver mode down clocks the CPU to 1GHz and it shows on touchwiz animations and transitions.

I'm impressed by battery life judging by what I used to get on my SGS2 with 2000mAh battery, but I'll give you guys what I'm getting, hopefully it gives new users and potential buyers some good info:

    Hardware:
    - LTE off, HSPA Only
    - Wifi On and connected for 50-60% of run/on time.
    - Auto-brightness ON
    - NFC Off
    - Network location ON, also Google is farming location data
    - GPS Off

    Auto-Sync ON:
    - One Gmail
    - TouchWiz Facebook Sync
    - Samsung Account
    - Dropbox
    - Whatsapp
    - Kakaotalk

Free Apps Installed: (everything else are paid apps; no ads!)
    - Wikipedia
    - Dropbox
    - Pixlr-o-matic
    - Whatsapp
    - Kakaotalk
    - Speed Test
    - CPU Spy
    - Adobe Flash Player
    - Quadrand Standard
    - suite of Google apps

    User behaviour and settings:
    - Cellular reception 10-12 asu (4 bars of strength) 50% of run-time.
    - Stock ROM, no root
    - Power Saver Mode OFF
    - LED Indicator ON
    - Menu/Back key light OFF
    - S Voice wake-up command OFF
    - Screen timeout 1 Minute
    - Minimal web-browsing; only for Facebook and Twitter, using Chrome
    - Black background RSS reader (gReader Pro); manual sync

    Results:
    - Screen on time: 4:30 to 4:50 hours
    - Cell standby power usage 28-35% (most concerning...)
    - Screen power usage 30-35%
    - Unplugged at 10am, go through day, sleep and wake up next day with 1%.
    - About 6-8% drain over 8 hours of sleep.

Preliminary Conclusions: Really stupid amount of battery usage during standby, even during deep sleep. Radio is likely the cause. HD Super AMOLED uses quite of bit power when displaying white (web browsing), and also gets quite warm, much warmer than SGS2. However, despite substantial increase in size and resolution compared to SGS2, I think it's not too bad as most would assume. Smart Stay does not work for Asian eyes ha!

How does that compared to Rogers HTC One X? If it is any better, I'll trade my SGS3 in a heartbeat.

In the stock browser there is a way to invert the colours such that white becomes black (and black becomes white, etc.)

I have been using and playing with the S3 since the launch day and I love it so far (coming from iphone 4).

Battery life has been shorter than the iphone, but its performance and larger screen makes the user experience better by far. With heavy usage (games, music, video, browsing, facebook, flipboard), I used to get about a day & half with the iphone and now I get about 11-13 hours.

For those of you who take the subway regularly, turn the flight mode on to keep the phone from searching for signals every few minutes and it will help with the battery life.

I got a case mate hard case from Bell store (Telus didn't have anything good), it looks very high-end with brush aluminum insert in the back. The offical flip case was also pretty good too.
The Future is Friendly... if you can pay for it.

    Just a head up!

I received the 64Gb Sandisk microsdxc that I bought on ebay for 72$ everything included in the price, the card came from korea (but bought from US seller), and it's working perfectly, it's seen as 59GB, currently transfering a 30Gb blu ray movie on it to test it out. So far about 10-15Mb/s write.

Was noticing my battery draining VERY fast on my S3. Also, in Downtown Vancouver I noticed I kept losing the network (didn't have this problem in Surrey, BC).

To try and solve the network issue I changed my Network Mode from GSM/HSPA/LTE to GSM/HSPA (as was suggested in another thread about the S3).

That completely fixed losing the network. It also made a night and day difference for my battery life. I'm now at 75% full after roughly 6 hours of moderate use. At the same time yesterday I was below 50% with near identical usage.

does this not sort of defeat the purpose of getting an LTE phone?

I'm excited to be getting mine tomorrow (through my company's corporate plan). Does anyone know if the Telus S3 will work on the T-Mobile network in the US? 2G at least?
