    Virgin Mobile HUP?

What is VMC's HUP? I just signed a 3yr contract a couple of months ago, and while nothing imminent, say I want to get the Samsung Galaxy S4 next year so say I'd be 15 months into my 36-month contract. What fees/penalties would I pay to get out of my current S2 and upgrade to that? I tried searching on their site and found nothing concrete.... I imagine with my heavily subsidized phone I would be looking at like $20/mo for remainder of contract or somethign?

    Hey Shaw!

You're pretty accurate! If you were to upgrade early, you have to pay out the termination fee and data credit (if any) that you'd receive on a phone purchase. We subsidize the handset with an agreement of a certain time commitment, so you prorate the total subsidy and divide it by the number of months remaining in the agreement.

Okay that makes sense. Can you give me an idea then, say I'm 18 months into my 36 month contract. Paying $60 month plan. Galaxy S2 was $549 but got it for $99 I believe. If you can give me an example that would be helpful to keep in mind.

    thx!

To upgrade when you are not eligible, you are looking to pay 20/mn for the remainder of your term to a maximum of 400, plus a possible data credit (of either $200/36 months x months remaining or nothing, depending what the data cancellation was. I would say a safe bet would be 18x20 = 360 plus the 160 agreement price. So roughly a minimum 520.

This is why I buy my phones outright :P

You are offered a no charge upgrade usually 30 months into a 36 month term, but continue to pay your bill in full on time, try calling customer service, and see what they can resolve. Never hurts to ask, right?
