    Activation Question ( best buy)

So I havent signed a new contract in a long time but I will be signing for 3 years this month for the s3. I'll be getting it from Best Buy.

How do I go about avoiding an activation fee? Would I even have an activation fee if I'm already a Telus customer?

If you have an existing number, the only fee is a $25 equipment swap. This can be waived but I'm not sure if Best Buy has the option to do so (I don't work there).

If not, then it's a matter of calling into Telus before you get your new phone, and say, "I am going to get the SIII but I don't want to pay the swap fee." They will usually agree to waive it. So when you get the phone and they charge it to your account, you call back in (*611) and when they see the phone on your account then they apply the credit.

    Thank you!

That equipment swap would have to be done right there? Or could I do that online for free

The swap is automatically put on the account in-store. Sometimes they make you pay for it in store but... it depends where you go and what their rules are.

Some stores even charge an extra in store fee on top of the $25 fee though it's not common.

Loyalty department reps who are really on the ball when they agree to waive the fee will actually load it as an offer on your account so it gets done automatically. The offer on your account will specifically mention hardware swap fee waived. On your bill you get a credit for $25 to offset the fee.

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.
