What kind of phone were you using when you got the extra charges?

i topped up myWallet with $10 to try roaming on my nexus s yesterday.
received 4 emails (no photos, all short text). no phone calls, no text message made/received. app update via text was turned off. no other apps were used since i was in a meeting.
tracked all data usage with Onavo Count. under 500kb used total (I'm being generous).
here are the results. i was only roaming for 3 hours.
WTF. how did i lose my remaining $9.12 on a $9.70 random GPRS charge?!?
obviously the math isn't correct here.

Ahh, so he didIt's late...thanks for helping me out.
I read your post too quickly. I thought you were asking how you were charged for data while Roaming, but, after reading your post again, it's starting to become clear to me
I have to agree with you that it looks like there's a billing error, but, if it matters, it's at least a billing error in your favor.
Sorry for any confusion. Serves me right to read/reply to posts when it's so late![]()
Where were you roaming, Canada, US, elsewhere?
hey guys,
i drove to burlington for a meeting. during that time, i received 3 (or 4?) email on my notification bars. i didn't even open them.
i never used the phone for anything else since i was in a meeting the whole time. turned it on only when i saw notification of an email (backlight notification on the nexus s) to see who sent it.
i don't even want to bother with mobilicity's help desk again. i usually get some incoherent foreigner from central/southern america who tell me they have no way of checking GPRS charges. it's my word versus theirs.
i love the price/service mobilicity provides me, but this is ridiculous.
If you have roaming data and auto sync on, there is a check for new emails like every 10 minutes or so. Data is consumed even if no new emails.
Sent from my Nexus S using HowardForums
Whether you opened the email or not its downloaded.
It sounds like either onavo is wrong or you are reading it wrong.
Sync entails all sorts of data hungry stuff and it obviously kicked in at 11:03 and ate up a few megs, like updating your apps, or any other similar stuff. It would only take 6.5mb to eat up your $9 remaining at that point.
Data roaming even at mobi's (cheap) rates is for chumps.
Yeah unless you turn data off there's always apps running in the background (especially when it was said you received e-mails it means it was checking - using data to check) Seems more like a user issue than a Mobilicity issue to me.
This is what I was referring to originally.
As others have said, if you had data roaming enabled, then several apps will be running in the background, especially widgets.
If you had data roaming disabled, and you're using the stock ROM, this is a known bug with Mobilicity's Nexus S.
unfortunately, the only way to fix this bug is to manually turn data OFF when you go into a roaming zone.
Actually there are a couple of other options. One is to move from your stock ROM to a custom one.
The other is use an app like Tasker which you can program up to automatically disable your data when roaming. Though this option requires a bit of programming effort and customization.
@xtachx
That's odd. I had Bugless Beast (2.3.7) installed on a Nexus S for a bit, and It seemed to correct the problem, though I didn't do very exhaustive testing on it.
I checked out the Wiki, but, only saw 4 entries which I thought was unrelated. But no worries, you seem more informed on this subject than me.
@ zaius
Sorry if I misinformed you... it's been a tough thread for me![]()
